Wicklow Brewery wins €10,000 Enterprise Park Business award

Wicklow Brewery was today announced as the overall winner of Wicklow’s Brightest Start-up Award and received a cheque for €5,000 from Wicklow Enterprise Park and a bumper €5,000 ad package from East Coast FM.

The craft brewery, based in Redcross, beat off stiff competition from the nine other businesses to make the final stage of the competition.

The announcement was made at Wicklow Enterprise Park’s 21st anniversary celebrations held at the Wicklow Enterprise Centre offices today Wednesday (29th June 2016).

Over 80 guests including public figures, businesses and representatives from local and national trade organisations attended the gala ceremony.

WEP Board Chairman Blaise Treacy recalled how the Enterprise Centre was first set up in 1993 when unemployment in County Wicklow had hit a frightening high of 24%.

“It had reached crisis stage and Wicklow County Council had to do something radical to change the course of the County’s economy. We knew there were many individuals across the County with great business ideas, people who could really succeed and provide employment given the right opportunity.”

This was the raison d’être for the establishment of Wicklow Enterprise Park.  21 years later hundreds of new and developing businesses have passed through the centre’s doors and over 790 full time jobs have been created by the various businesses operating at the Centre.

Mr Treacy said these successes were down to the innovation and determination of the very businesses the centre supports.  He said it was particularly fitting that the 21 years should be celebrated by recognising this entrepreneurship through Wicklow’s Brightest Start-up award.

He paid tribute to fellow judges Sheelagh Daly (CEO Local Enterprise Office) and Ciara O’Connor (CEO East Coast FM) for the time and dedication they devoted to the competition.

Ciara O’Connor praised overall winner Wicklow Brewery for “showing great innovation in developing a unique product and utilising their existing businesses to offer an all-round visitor experience. They have an excellent marketing strategy and are developing a great personality for their brand through their merchandising and beer-tasting sessions.”
