Aughrim notes July 4th

Community Games

In a surprise last minute reprieve. Our U 15 girl’s soccer team got through to Leinster in Carlow today in a straight final but unfortunately after a great game they lost to Pilltown. Co Kilkenny but still came away with silver medals and second best in Leinster! Well done to the parents who travelled and to a great coach Oisin Jordan .

Derry Gaels

The U14 football team played Blessington and Rathnew last week and came away with 2 very good wins. They travelled to Blessington on Wed night and won on a score of 5-10 to 0-03. Scorers were John Toomey 2-02, Adam Keegan 1-04, Robbie Doyle 1-00, Dylan Lynch 1-01 and points for Philip Toomey, Dara O’ Shea, John Moran and Oisin Dillon. The backs and midfield were on top form and kept the Blessington boys scoreless for 55 minutes of the game. Oisin Dunne was back after a hand injury and he along with Dylan Byrne and Euan Harper played some great football out of defence while Robbie Doyle and Dylan Lynch controlled the middle for long periods.
On Friday night we hosted Rathnew and as both teams had a 100% record from the games played to date, this was vital game to win. Derry Gaels again made no mistake and won out on a score of 3-11 to 1-04. Scorers were Adam Keegan 0-06, Oisin Dillon 1-02, John Toomey 1-01, Dara O’ Shea 1-00, Robbie Doyle 0-01 and Dylan Molloy 0-01. The backs again were very impressive, this time with Conor Byrne, Pauric Dolye, Shane Arthur and Euan Harper playing their hearts out. The team have won 6 out of 6 now in the league, but they will have to keep that form going for the remainder of the games in the league if they want to finish top of the group.

Juvenile GAA

The U8 & U10 footballers travelled to Carnew recently to play the local side. the U8’s did really well and keep on improving with every game, while the U10’s with a few players short were given a bit of a lesson in football. The U8 & U10 hurlers travelled to Ballinakill on Friday night last to take on The Arklow Rocks and again did themselves proud. The U10’s with a full panel of players can play really well and put it up to the Rocks throughout while the U8’s who are somewhat smaller than the Arklow Rock players, made yp for their size with determination and skill, so well done to all, the more the teams play the better they get. The U8 & U10 footballers play Knockananna on Tuesday night and then travel to Shillelagh on Saturday for another game. A further reminder – The Kelloggs Cul Camps is just a few weeks away now, this is an action packed week of GAA activities, running from 10am to 2.30pm daily.
