Match reports

Senior Hurling Championship

Bray Emmets:  2-22 – Avondale: 0-12

Following on from the win against Greystones our lads didn’t take too long to dismantle Avondale. This was another mismatch and one can only be worried for Avondale that their days at senior level may be numbered, the final score 2-22 to 12 points.

There seems to be a lack of hurlers coming through in these once upon a time hurling strong holds, we had 2.12 on the score board at half time to 6 points for Avondale, goals from Mark Lennon (1.) and Christy Moorehouse(1.7) certainly set us on the road for a big win, so one could only hope that in the second half the score line would not reach an off-the-wall level.

Darragh Henderson dropped back to full back spot and did a great job, keeping Ray Nolan quite on the day. Diarmuid Masterson (2) was giving the job of marking Eamonn Kearns at centre field, and he proved to be a good match for him, Conor Doherty made his senior debut is this one and made his presence felt with a well taken point and several good possessions. Ben McCormack also back playing senior championship and joined his brother Eoin  (4) on the forty- yard line, who contributed 4 points on the day and generally put himself about very well.

Darragh Maloney was another man that made an appearance on Sunday and he also joined his younger brother Sean in the line-up, both up from the intermediate team and with Luke on the injury list it may not be too long before we have three Maloney’s lining out. Arran Murphy(1) dropped back into the half back line on Sunday and resumed duty as normal, covering every blade of grass in Arklow, Willie Keane (2) put in a good shift at centre forward as did Paddy Lee(2) at full forward, Cathal O Dualachain (2) and Cian O Byrne (1)also did well.

Team: Peter O’Reilly, Sean Maloney, Darragh Henderson, Daire Lohan, Arran Murphy, John Henderson, Peter Walsh, Diarmuid Masterson, Eoin McCormack, Mark Lennon, Willie Keane, Jackie Moorehouse, Cathal O’Dualachain, Paddy Lee, Cian O’Byrne, Ben McCormack, Darragh Maloney and Conor Doherty.
