Caring for Carers Training Courses
South Dublin/Wicklow
Saint Joseph’s Shankill is hosting a Caring for Carers training programme in the Autumn specifically for family carers who look after people living with dementia at home. To register your interest please contact: Teresa Mooney, tel: 01 208 3000 or 087 234 2420 or e-mail: teresa.mooney@sjog.ie
The courses will offer carers support through knowledge and information and will cater for carers in the community in South Dublin and North Wicklow. Saint Joseph’s will offer respite services for carers to allow them the freedom to attend the courses worry free. The training courses will be free of charge and will take place in Saint Joseph’s Shankill.
The courses will include:
- Information about dementia
- How best to communicate with someone living with dementia
- How to manage your stress and worries
- Where to access support, services or help
The Communications and Stress Management training will be divided into male only and female only groups as we know that there is a gender difference in the area of communication and stress management!
The training will provide dementia specific training to carers, giving them the understanding of dementia and dementia care, where feelings matter most. It will equip the carers with the tools to cope with the stress of caring for someone with dementia, and the ability to access the support systems to assist them in their role as a carer of someone with dementia.
The Carers will gain a deeper understanding of the feelings and needs of people with dementia. These learnings will all ultimately lead to better relationships between carer and their loved one living with dementia.”
