Sheep Breeders Show  and Sale

The Aughrim sheep breeders’ 49th annual sheep show and sale will be held in Carnew mart on Friday September 2nd.  Entries to be given to show Secretary Alan 087 2792157.  All entries welcome.  Presentation of prizes will be held at cabaret in O’Toole’s, Aughrim on the night of show at 9 p.m. Music by Alvin.  All proceeds in aid of St. Colman’s Hospital, Rathdrum.

GAA

There was no club activities last weekend due to the death of Patty Keenan  (nee Doyle )wife of our  former Chairman Liam and mother of Tom, John and Liam.

She was a well respected member of the  community and Aughrim Gaa would like to send their sympathies to the Keenan family and their extended families at this sad time .Ar Dheis go raibh a anam.

On a happier note we would like to send  congratulations to John Keenan on being selected to referee the All Ireland minor hurling final next Sunday.  Our next outing in the league is against Ballinacor come along and give the lads a bit of support. Our juniors play Donard on Saturday and a win will see them into the semi-final. Hard luck to the U16 county camogie girls who were defeated by Tyrone on Sunday last in the All-Ireland final. Well done to all involved with this group. Best of luck to the Aughrim U14’s who play in the A championship final.

Macreddin Cemetery Commitee AGM

The Annual Lower Macreddin Cemetery Commitee AGM will be held in Joe O’Toole’s on tonight Thursday  September 1st at 7.15. The main issue will be around funding and ongoing maintenance. All welcome.

Concert

A fund raising concert in aid of the Wicklow Hospice Ltd will be held in The Brooklodge Chapel on Friday September 9th at 7 p.m.  The Brook singers will be in concert, featuring Simon Morgan and Lisa Lambe.  The special guest artist will be Eimear Harper.  Seating is limited and will cost €15 a head (plus your own discretion) . Prosecco and canapes will be available on the lawn pre concert.  Reservations only to Michael 087 2558157 and Vincent 086 2572453.

Lotto

The numbers: 3, 6, 23 and 28 were drawn in the Sports club lotto on Monday August 22nd.  The jackpot was not won.  Match three winners were: Fiona Holt, Declan O’Brien, Martin Darcy and Gerard Brennan. The jackpot is €2700.

Active Retirement New Venue

All future monthly meetings will be held in The Sports Complex – Rednagh Road starting on Tuesday 6th September at 10.30 am.  The guest speaker will be Linda Fleming, a Milliner who will talk about and show us some of her hat designs for weddings and other occasions. We look forward to seeing all our members after the Summer break. New members are also welcome.  The Committee will meet on Thursday 1st September at 10.30 am in Lawless’s Hotel.

Market

Enjoy a trip to the Aughrim Town & Country Market from 10am – 2pm every Saturday at The Pavilion on Rednagh Road.  Share a coffee and chat with friends in the ‘Coffee Dock Cafe’ or sit outside in the August sunshine and enjoy the beautiful scenery.  There is a great selection of local produce to be had, including; fresh meat and vegetables, farm fresh eggs, freshly baked bread and cakes and homemade seasonal jams and chutneys.  You will also find lovely gift ideas from the craft stalls and very nice hand-crafted jewellery.
