The Senior Hurlers visited Greystones on Friday to take on Éire Óg in the Senior Hurling Championship. The lads picked up a win on a scoreline of St Pats 0-17 Éire Óg 1-11. The Senior Hurling Championship Quarter Finals are down for the week end 3/4 Sept with the possibility of St Patricks taking on Avondale. Details to be confirmed at Monday night’s County Board Meeting.
Both our Ladies teams were unlucky this weekend. Our Juniors played in Aughrim on Sunday in the Junior B Final against Arklow. Unfortunately AGB were a much stronger side on the day and claimed the title. The Senior Ladies faced Baltinglass on Saturday evening in a play-off game to make it to the semi-final of the Championship but they too fell short. Both teams still have League games to play to finish out the season.
A busy week last week for the U14 girls and management team. Three games in total were played on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday resulting in two wins and a loss. The girls had a brave performance in the C Championship against a very good Enniskerry/Kilmac outfit with Eva Phelan, Julie Phelan, Leah Byrne, Jennifer Madden, Ellen Griffin, Keela Dunne with a nice haul of 1-4, and Nadia Lassarri all staring. The Final Score was 1-12 to Clan Na Gael’s 4-05.
Team: Ellen Griffin, Sarah Carroll, Lauren Gregory, Julie Phelan, Heather Mc Inerney, Leah Byrne (0-2) Nadia Lassarri, Eva Phelan (0-1) Grace Montgomery, Layla Hitchen (0-1), Jennifer Madden (0-4), Laura Newsome, Keela Dunne (1-4), Kate Connolly, Kate Shea.
Subs: Aoife Caffrey , Leanne O Neill , Molly Seeeney , Emer Kennedy, Kayleigh Keogh.
On Thursday our girls left Wicklow at 5.20pm for a long journey down to South Wicklow to take on Jack Bowes – Coolkenno girls in the C Championship. This was a cracker! The play was up and down the field and no “blanket defences” were in operation. Our girls managed to come out on top on a score line of 7-09 to 4-12. Leading 4-05 to 0-05 at half time, seemed to leave us more than comfortable. However the Coolkenno girls came storming back in the second half and we had to fight tooth and nail to grind out our 6 point win. We had a serious “sister act” here with both Team Captains Eva and Julie Phelan putting in a massive shift. Adding to that Keela Dunne caused a rampage scoring a personal tally of 5-02 which was the foundation for a great victory. Sarah Carroll was solid at corner back and with Holly Mc Sorley, Layla Hitchen, Molly Sweeney, Grace Montgomery, Katie Shea, Nadia Lassarri, Leanne O Neill , Heather McInerney, Laura Newsome & Aine Kavanagh in goal – saving a penalty too, all staring. A victory over AGB now in our last group game will see us into the C Championship final. Team: Aine Kavanagh, Julie Phelan, Nadia Lassarri, Sarah Carroll, Heather McInerney, (0-1), Molly Sweeney , Grace Montgonery , Eva Phelan, Katie Shea (0-2), Holly Mc Sorley (0-3), Layla Hitchen, Laura Newsome (1-0), Keela Dunne (5-2), Subs : Leanne O Neill (1-0), Aoife Caffrey Kayleigh Keogh, Kate Connolly (0-1).
On Tuesday it was the first game since the 7th July for our U14 Girls in the A Championship, and our first real competitive outing since the All Ireland Feile in Cork/Kerry in late June. They beat Valleymount, 12-09 to 2-09. While the scoreline suggests a comfortable victory this was certainly not the case. A gallant Valleymount asked lots of questions during the hour, and we had to work hard and perform for every ball and score. The management were no doubt delighted to overcome a tricky away first round tie and will now meet the winners of Baltinglass or Tinahely in the “A” Championship Semi-Final on the weekend of the 10th-11th September. St. Pats had excellent performances from Niamh Caffrey, Siobhan Gorman, Jess Lyons, Ellen Griffin, Jennifer Madden, Naoise O’Reilly, Lucy Dunne, Michaela Dickenson, Aisling Walsh and Lauren Gregory in goals.
Team : Lauren Gregory, Michaela Dickenson, Ellen Griffin, Amy O’Doherty, Leah Byrne, Lucy Dunne (Capt), Chloe O’Donovan, Georgia Kelly Aisling Walsh, Jennifer Madden, Naoise O’Reilly, Siobhan Gorman, Jess Lyons, Niamh Caffrey, Sophie Porter.
Blessington GAA Club hosted a fantastic football blitz on Sunday 28TH August with teams from Wicklow, Kildare and Dublin taking part. Our u10’s got the better of Cuala in their final. Our u9’s beat neighbours Rathnew in their final. While our u8’s after topping their group had to give second best to a strong Kill side from Kildare. Well done to all the players and parents who made the early trip west, and to Blessington for a great event.
Our Minor lads travelled to Arklow last Wednesday to take on the current County Minor champions AGB in Pearse Park.
