Carnew Musical Society –

Stars in their Eyes

Carnew Musical Society will host ‘Stars in their Eyes’ in St. Brigid’s Hall, Carnew on Saturday 17th September 2016. This entertaining event will host representatives from a variety of local clubs and groups who will perform as their favourite act in the hope of winning the fantastic prize of €500 for their group. Tickets are only €10 and are available from Carnew Training and Development Centre as well as from Carnew MS Committee members and participating groups. Come along and join in the fun by voting for your favourite act.

Fiddler on the Roof rehearsals

Rehearsals for Fiddler on the Roof will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Carnew National School from 8-10 p.m. The ladies chorus has reached capacity but the society are still encouraging men of all ages to join. The show will be performed from Monday 21st – Saturday 26th November in St. Brigid’s Hall, Carnew

Under 12 Football Mini League

Carnew 1-12       AGB 3-6

Carnew fought back well to eke out a draw when they came up against a good AGB team on Monday August 26th in Carnew.  AGB got off to a dream start and were well ahead on the scoreboard after 20 minutes. Carnew slowly but surely got a foothold in the game with some great scores from Dan Redmond, Cillian Doyle, Ben Gilligan and some accurate footwork from Conor Neville kept Carnew in with a fighting chance. Daragh Rawson, Jack Brownrigg, Zack Jordan and Shane Byrne were also notable for Carnew. Two evenly matched teams served up an entertaining game of football. As the season is coming to a close, Carnew are looking forward to playing in the finals.

GAA LOTTO

Carnew GAA lotto was not won, Numbers drawn. 3; 9; 16; 21.  4 Lucky dip prizes €50 each ; Molly Driver, C/O  Willie Driver. Padraig Doyle, 23 Malton Park, Carnew. Pheasant Kennedy, Coollattin. Patsy Brennan , C/O Drew . Next draw takes place in The Lodge Carnew On Monday 12th September and the .Jackpot is   €6,800.00

ASKAMORE BADMINTON

The AGM of Askamore badminton club will take place on Monday 12th September in Askamore Hall at 8.30pm new committee members will be elected, please come along and support the badminton, anyone interested in playing please forward names to Larry 0868040351 or Ashling 0879329135.

Congratulations to Con Byrne, Gorey Road and Elizabeth Doyle, Castlewhite who were married recently.

LOTTO

Winners of the Pride in Carnew lotto recently were 31st August Aggie Somers, seller Victor Young. 24th no winner, 17th Miriam Osborne seller Mary Hall. 10th Susanne O’Sullivan seller Victor Young, many thanks to everyone for their support to date, all proceeds towards the up keep of Carnew.

BINGO

The monthly bingo in Carnew will resume on Sunday 25th September at 2pm.

CARNEW WALKING CLUB

Carnew walking club meet every Thursday evening at 7.30pm at Carnew Training and Development centre please come along and keep this service going, there is no fee and you can walk at your own pace.

TINAHELY WALKING CLUB

On Sunday Sept 11 the walk is in the Blackstairs (Grade B, 12k, 4 hours). Meeting in Tinahely at 10.00, or Bunclody car park at 10.45.

Please ensure to wear proper walking boots, to bring adequate food & drink and to pack (or wear) rain gear.

HOSPICE COFFEE MORNING

There will be a Hospice coffee morning on 15th September from 10am – 9pm in Ailish Walsh’s house, Donishal, Askamore, all welcome to come along and support this worthy cause.

HERITAGE CLUB

Carnew Heritage club are busy getting ready for their annual working day on Sunday 11th September on the usual lands on the Main Carnew Gorey Road, with all the usual events cafts, bread and butter making, colcannon, Pig on the Spit, harvesting of crops, tractor pulling and more,trade stands welcome, the theme this year is 4 x 4 cars and jeeps, there will be a barn dance on the Saturday night 10th in Kenny’s Barn with music by The Navvies and Irish music in the Lounge. Proceeds towards Friends of Local People with M.S. and local charities. For more details contact Kevin 0876732437.
KNOCK PILGRIMAGE
There will be a pilgrimage to knock on 24th September, leaving Carnew Church  at 8am, Gorey church at 8.30am, there will be an over night stay, back on 25th, if interested in travelling please contact Marie on 0539426646 or 0872323966.
