Arklow Enterprise Town this weekend

Arklow Enterprise Town gets underway on Friday 30th September in St. Mary’s College, and continues until 2pm on Saturday 1st October.  This FREE event will be jam packed with prizes, treats and entertainment for all the family.  Over 100 local clubs, schools, community groups and businesses are expected to come together to put on a spectacular showcase.

On Friday at 5pm Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD will open proceedings, followed by an awards presentation to BizWorld Ireland students from Carysfort National School.  Everyone is welcome to come along to this Free Event and the public will be treated to performances from world-renowned Celtic soprano singer Avril O’Toole as well as The Vault Rhythm Circle and Ukulele Group. The Business Panel Debate takes place at 6.30pm hosted by Ann McGovern of the Arklow Chamber of Commerce.  Afterwards, an energetic performance from Laura’s Dance & Health Fitness Group before the McMullan’s Fashions Show hits the stage.  To round off Day One of the Expo, the wonderful Penston Vocal Academy will be performing before the doors close at 8pm.

The Enterprise Town Initiative is sponsored by Bank of Ireland and Arklow branch manager Derek Tobin is delighted and overwhelmed by the support the event has been getting.  “We are expecting a truly fantastic event this weekend, which is down to the unbelievable support from all sectors of the community in Arklow.  We have amazing prizes to give away including Leinster Rugby Tickets, 4 balls to Arklow Golf Club, hampers from Next Door and ASL Safety & Training, Schools colouring & short story competitions sponsored by Glenhaven Foods and of course the main exhibitors prize from eConsult Ireland worth over €2,000, which two local organisations will benefit from. Irish Rail has also been very generous in giving free parking at Arklow Railway Station to anyone attending the event on Friday or Saturday”.

On Saturday morning doors open at 11am for the Community & Sport Expo, with a special performance from the Frances Ryan’s School of Dance, before guest of honour and GAA legend Tyrone Manager Mickey Harte takes to the stage.  No doubt he will be in full swing in advance of the All Ireland Football Final replay scheduled for later that day. Keeping with the sports theme, Eric Miller, former Leinster, Ireland and Lions player will head up the Sports Discussion Panel at 12 noon.

The rest of the afternoon will see a full line up of FREE kid’s entertainment including antics with Giggles the Clown, a chance to meet “Ollie the Owl”, Mr. Mac’s famous ice cream free for children and face painting with the McDonalds Arklow crew.  Live demonstrations from the Arnkell Jiu Jitsu Academy, a musical performance from Cruinniú, the ladies’ chamber choir, and the ASL Safety & Training CPR demonstration will keep visitors of all ages entertained.

The organising committee is encouraging everyone to come along to Arklow Enterprise Town to enjoy this FREE event.   For all the updates go to the Facebook Page ‘Arklow Enterprise Town’.
