Active Retirement

At our October meeting guest speaker Fire station Officer Nicholas Lacey gave a lively and interesting talk with lots of sound advice and tips for fire safety in our homes. A big thank you to Nicholas from all our members.  On October 13th we will be off to Goatsbridge Trout Farm Thomastown,Co. Kilkenny, followed by lunch and shopping in The Aboretum in Leighlinbridge. Bus will depart  from The PAVILION at 10am sharp. please bring €20 for fare and tour fee in an envelope with your name on the day.  We are also planning a Spa Day for Tuesday, October 25th anyone interested please contact Bridget or any committee member ASAP.  November guest speaker will be Joan O’Reilly, Woodenbridge Cottage Preserves

Community Games AGM

Aughrim/Annacurra community games Agm takes place on Wednesday October 19th in the Aughrim Community Sports field and hall at 8.30pm. Behind every organisation you have to have a committee. No committee. No Club! We would urge volunteers to come forward to help even in an assistant capacity please.  It’s a team effort and all help is appreciated.

Youth Club

We are in the process of starting up the Youth Club in Aughrim. We are looking for leaders to help run the club if anyone is interested please contact Ray Howes at 086 2152629.  All you need to do is fill in a form plus a Garda Vetting form.  Aughrim needs a Youth Club.


The numbers: 5, 6, 9 and 19 were drawn in the Sports club lotto on Monday October 3rd.  The jackpot was not won.  Match three winners were: Michael Canavan, May, Oisin & Eirin O’Brien, Aine Darcy, S & M c/o Eithne, Rory & Ger O’Brien, Joan Stapleton and Alan Dillon.  The jackpot is €3600.


Autumn with all its bountiful produce has well and truly arrived. Do drop in to Aughrim Town & Country Market from 10 – 2pm every Saturday at the Pavilion on Rednagh Rd. Enjoy a delicious breakfast prepared by Valerie and Linda or a light lunch or yummy cake & coffee.  There is a great selection of local produce to be had including, fresh meat and vegetables, farm fresh eggs, freshly baked breads and cakes and delicious homemade jams and chutneys. A new and welcome addition to the market  is our very own ‘taste of Greece’ with delicious tzatziki, hummus and other delectable delights!  Our craft stalls and beautiful handmade jewellery will inspire gift ideas and you can stay warm with Aran knits and wraps as the weather becomes cooler. Do drop in and support your local market where a warm welcome awaits you.
