A large crowd descended on Jones’ in Redcross on Saturday night to remember the late Des Doyle.
Over 50 dart throwers took part in the first annual Des Doyle memorial singles competition to remember one of Wicklow’s greatest throwers, who passed away recently.
The games were played out on four boards and the large crowd in attendance were treated to some quality darts throughout the night.
In the end it boiled down to two of Wicklow’s best current throwers, Shane Byrne and Johnny White.
Both players served up a very good final, but White was in great form all night and the Rathnew man prevailed 3-2, to be crowned the first Des Doyle memorial winner.
Over €1000 was raised for the Doyle family on what was an emotional night for all concerned.
Speaking afterwards, Quinton Doyle thanked all that had turned out to remember his father and also offered his thanks on behalf of the Doyle family.
A special work of thanks must go to the Jones’ Dart team, Din Keogh and Thomas Browne, Helen Browne and Serena Moore for organising the raffle on the night, David Corcoran for helping out with the draw, Noel and Helen Jacob for the generosity in providing the stands on the night and all the staff in Rua’s for an excellent night.
