Players and officials of Wicklow hockey club were left devastated on Saturday after the sudden death of player Forbes Vigors.
Forbes died after his side had beaten Pembroke 2-0 at a home tie at East Glendalough in Wicklow town, in which he had taken part.
Spokesperson for the club Peter Thompson said “We are completely devastated, Forbes is also currently the Secretary and has held the position of captain and vice-president, he is the backbone of the club. We wish to offer our condolences to his family at this time.”
There was more sad news from Cork where a referee in his 4o’s collapsed and died during a camogie match.
