AGB Minor Men are Minor A County Champions once again after defeating Pearse Gaels on Sunday in the Minor A County Championship Final. This was a huge achievement for the team to achive, two years in a row. The AGB team arrived on the pitch and quickly got the game going. Cormac O Shea opened the score with a point from a free, and shortly after scored a goal from a penalty. The ball remained with AGB for a huge amount of play and another point and goal were added by Ciaran O Shea, before a third goal by Cormac O Shea. The AGB team were strong and determined not to let Pearse Gaels slip by them. They kept the ball moving through them and the hard work they had been putting in on the training field was evident as they played together as a strong team. AGB went into the half time break leading 3-03 to 1-01. A fourth goal for AGB from Cathal Kelleher quickly opened the second half and the AGB minors continued to stand united. The second half continued with AGB dominating the field, and the fifth goal followed as it was set up by Cathal Kelleher and scored by Ciaran O Shea. The AGB Minors were on fire and were not a team to be reckoned with on Sunday as further points were clocked up while the AGB team burst past the Pearse Gaels defense. A very well deserved win was awarded to the minors for all their hard work during the tough 60 minutes and they finished with a winning score of 5-08 to 2-05. Cathal Kelleher was presented with Man of the Match a well deserved honor after all his hard work on the day, and happily raised the cup as Captain to celebrate his teams victory. Congratulations to the Minors from all at AGB on their very successful season. A special word of thanks to Christys in Arklow who provided meals to the team and their families on their return with the cup.
AGB Minor Ladies are through to the Minor Championship final 2016. Having lost to St. Patrick’s in the opening round of this competition last season the girls were determined to acquit themselves well on their return to Wicklow Town to take on their old rivals. AGB started in a determined manner and led for much of the opening half. Two late goals from St. Patrick’s left the Arklow girls trailing by two points at the break.
The girls were undaunted however feeling they had out-played their opponents in the first thirty minutes. They embarked on the second half with the same sense of purpose and in workman-like fashion pushed on to victory on a score line of 2-12 to 4-3. So sweet was this victory that the supporters could be forgiven for thinking it was actually the final of the competition, such were the celebrations of the Arklow girls after this long awaited triumph. The girls now look forward to meeting Tinahely in the County Final, on Sunday 6/10/16 at 2pm in Aughrim where it will be doubly joyous should they prevail as the AGB Minor Boys have just added a second minor title to their trophy cabinet. What a wonderful season for AGB Minors!
