Secondary schools across the county are back open this morning after the ASTI called off their ongoing strike action yesterday.
The move comes after the Union and the Department of Education accepted an invitation from the chair of the Teachers’ Conciliation Council, Anna Perry, to attend talks with her today.
As well as calling off strike action, the union has also called off its withdrawal from the supervision of students which had resulted in the closure of about 400 schools across the country.
Ms Perry is also Director of Conciliation Services at the Workplace Relations Commission and she will meet both sides separately or initial talks to try and find a solution to the ongoing dispute.
Minister of Education, Richard Bruton, has welcomed the decision and said he remains hopeful a resolution to the dispute can be found.
