Carnew notes week December 19


Happy Christmas all. There are no scheduled walks on Christmas Day or New Years Day – but don’t let that stop you if you are so inclined. On Sunday January 8 we will gently begin the New Year with a Grade C Garryhoe/Railway/Mangans walk, meeting in Tinahely at 10.30.


Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Andy Brennan, Arklow and formely Carnew who died during the week, his remains were removed to Carnew on Saturday evening and burial took place on Sunday in Tomacork cemetery.


The Hope Cancer Support Centre would like to invite you to their annual Winter Solstice Ceremony of Light and Healing in the Irish National Heritage Park, Ferrycarrig, Wexford on Wednesday December 21st at 7.30 pm. Please come along and be part of something special.

Time to get 2017 off to a flier! Shillelagh Area Community Games will recommence indoor athletics training in the Shillelagh Courthouse on Mon 9th Jan 2017. The times are: 6-7pm for UNDER 10s and 7-8pm for OVER 10s. Parents/guardians are also welcomed to participate. The cost are : €2 per child, €4 per parent/guardian. Trainer: Doreen Byrne. GOAL Mile – New Year’s Day 2017 in Tinahely
A GOAL Mile will take place on New Year’s Day 2017 at 12 noon in Tinahely. This is a national family event open to all to help raise funds for GOAL’s work globally. The start & finish will be Murphy’s Hotel.  For further details find us on FaceBook or contact Hugh on 0876207193


The winner of Scoil Aodan Naofa Carnew Split the Pot was Shirley Byrne  winning €283. Tickets on sale from the school or local shops, the next draw is on Thursday 22nd with extra prizes of large hamper, €50 meat voucher, chocolate biscuit cake and mini hamper.


A charity walk, car, tractor and lorry run will take place on Sunday 1st January 2017 from Carnew mart, registration from 11.30am, starting at 12.30pm, walkers €10, cars, tractors and lorries €20, refreshments afterwards in Colaiste Bhride, For enquiries contact John Somers 0876578761. All proceeds in aid of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, this trust aims to alleviate the financial hardships of bereaved families repatriating the body of loved ones who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances back to Ireland.

South Wicklow Hospice Homecare would like to say a huge thank you to all that took part in the head and beard shave in The Corner Hacketstown on Saturday 3rd December where €6,400 was raised.
