Christmas Cards
Christmas cards are on sale at present for Friedrich’s Ataxia research Alliance (FARA) Ireland. As you know they are an excellent way of spreading awareness for Friedrich’s ataxia as it one of 5,000 a rare illnesses. At least 6-8% of the Irish population is affected by a rare disease but the figure could be as high as 11%. Some rare diseases are more serious than others. FARA Ireland have been running the Christmas card fundraiser over the last 10 years and have seen the benefits of it as promoting awareness at first hand. Friedreich’s Ataxia usually presents those in their early teens, a time in their lives when it is difficult for them to accept any illness. This makes the need for awareness all the more important as they try to tell people they meet that they have Friedreich’s Ataxia.
This year the card selection includes a picture of the GPO and Spire (alternatively titles the Monument of Light) in the Dublin selection, Blarney Castle and Patrick st., Cork as we as several Christmas scenes. Over the last few years the Ataxia Charity shop in Bandon, Co Cork has raised €20,000 annually for Friedrich Ataxia research so FARA Ireland are delighted to include a Cork selection into the cards this year. Pack of 15 Christmas cards costs €8 of which €5 goes directly to the Charity
The cards can be purchased in Dunlavin at the Health Centre, Centra and Parish Centre; Donard- OKeefe’s Country Store ; Hollywood – Dalys’ Service Station; Baltinglass – Murphy Sherrin Veterinary; Blessington – McGreal’s Pharmacy and The Office Shop; Kilcullen – Berney’s Pharmacy; Newbridge Bergin’s Pharmacy. FARA Ireland are indebted to all these outlets for their help in promoting this fundraiser.
