New to You Charity Shop

New to You charity shop, helping towards the upkeep of the Pavilion, Fishing Park and village of Aughrim.   We are appealing for donations of saleable goods – bric a Brac, clothing, small pieces of furniture toys etc.  If you have something that you have no further use for but feel it would suit someone else please donate.  Our opening hours are 10am – 1pm and 2pm to 4pm Monday to Friday and 10 – 2 on Saturdays.

Community Games

Community games is back with a bang this week for the start of the New Year and what a special year that will be. 50th anniversary of National Community Games and 10th anniversary of the current run of Aughrim/Annacurra community games.  Our athletic training starts back every Monday at 7pm. All children welcome from 6-16 in the sports complex Aughrim. We are going to go ahead and enter an U-14 and U-11 mixed Tag Rugby team to the community games. Barney Hynes has kindly offered to train the children again and the training sessions will take place in Annacurra GAA Field every Tuesday (U11) and Wednesday (U14) straight after school. As it is the jubilee year for community games 50 years old. It is all starting earlier so if we have the interest we will start next week January 17th. Juvenile GAA

Membership is now due for all players and officials of the club and for anyone else who would like to be associated with the club.   All money taken in goes into the running of the all teams in the club and is very important for this purpose. Croke Park tickets are available from any club member at a cost of €10.  All ticket sales monies go directly to the Aughrim club. 

There is a players meeting on Friday in the complex at 9 to meet with the new management team and set out their plan for the coming year. Please all attend as it is vital that we all get together before training starts. At the recent juvenile Annual general meeting committee elected are as follows: Chairman: Pete Carroll, Secretary Sean O’Shea, Treasurer Sean O’Shea Child Welfare Officer Rory Connolly. 

We are always looking for help at juvenile level so if you are available to give a hand any evening when training starts back let any of the committee know please.   This is where it all begins for our up and coming players to keep the club going into the future so come along and give it a go and get involved.

Athletics Club

Thirty-five percent of us who make New Year’s resolutions break them by the end of January. Only 23 percent of everyone who makes a resolution will see it through to completion.  Aughrim Athletics AGM will take place Tuesday January 31st. at 8.30 p.m. in Aughrim Sports Complex. Please come along to support the club and help keep your New Year’s Resolution on track!

Macreddin Cemetery Meeting

A meeting to discuss the upkeep and maintenance of lower Macreddin cemetery will be held in O’Toole’s Main Street, Aughrim on Thursday January 19th.  at 8 p.m.  Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Councillor Pat Kennedy will be in attendance.

Active Retirement

Thanks to Louise Curran for demonstration of Chair Yoga which went down very well with our members. Classes will begin on Tuesday January 17th. at 10.45am in the Sports Complex.  If you wish to join please let a committee member know before then. Election papers have been distributed, please complete and return to Margaret Brady or Anne Thornton by January 14th.


There was great activity at the Aughrim Town & Country Market last Saturday as the stallholders returned after their well deserved Christmas break. The buzz was great in the cafe as people chatted and enjoyed their refreshments in the cosy atmosphere around the fire.  Come and join us in the Pavilion, Rednagh Road, every Saturday from 10am – 2pm. Fresh local produce available from farm fresh meat and vegetables, eggs, freshly baked bread & cakes, seasonal jams & chutneys and healthy options too. Aughrim Sports Complex AGM.

The AGM of the Aughrim Community Sports and Leisure Association will be held in the Sports Complex on Thursday 16thFebruary 2017 at 8pm.

Yoga Classes

Yoga classes will be held at Aughrim Sports Complex on Wednesdays and Thursdays 8-9.15pm. Start dates January 11th & 12th. 6 week courses, price €60. Mixed levels, beginners welcome. Please text or call Yvonne 0876778733 for more details or to book a place. Spaces are limited.


The numbers: 2, 6, 10 and 13 were drawn in the Sports club lotto on Monday January 9th.  The jackpot was not won. Match three winner were: Bernie Doyle, Mrs. K. Sheerin and Ann Alexander The jackpot is €5550.
