One of Wicklow’s most picturesque golf clubs has gone into liquidation.
Glen of the Downs golf club closed its gates on Monday.
The following positive message was posted by club members.
Glen Of The Downs Golf Club Dear Member, “We have been informed by the Directors of Glen of the Down plc that with immediate effect the company is going into liquidation.
As and from this evening, January 16th, there will be no access to the Club until further notice.
The Directors will be communicating to all Members in this regard. We expect that a liquidator will be appointed shortly and it is our intention to engage with them as soon as possible to understand their plans and approach.
The captains and committees of our respective clubs have been engaging extensively with the directors of the plc regarding its financial stability and as a consequence could not endorse the issuing of subscription invoices for 2017.
This protected the interest of the members. The sub-group, which has been acting on behalf of both the Ladies & Mens Club Committees, will continue to do everything possible to achieve an enduring outcome for all members.
One of the aspirations of the sub-group is the establishment of a new Glen of the Downs Golf Club run by the members.
It is envisioned that during the liquidation process the Club will remain closed for a period of time. During this time, it is hoped that both Committees and interested members, will form a focused task force to establish all the elements required to set up of a new Glen of the Downs Golf Club.
We realise this may come as a shock to you but we want to emphasise that this could lead to a very positive outcome for the future of the Men’s and Ladies clubs. Thank you, Kind Regards”, Maggie Cunniffe Fiachra O’ Donnell Lady Captain Captain
