Fr. James Hammel (Parish Priest) has decided to retire.

His parishioners, the community and neighbouring parishes along with

Tinahely / Carnew Church Union and Ballinatone Church Union all joined with him for his retirement celebration in Annacurra Community Centre Saturday 18th February where the Community Centre was almost full to capacity.

Fr. Hammel arrived in Annacurra (which is the most northerly parish in the diocese of ferns) on Saturday 14th September 1996. He is retiring on 1st March 2017.

The Parishioners and Community express there sincere gratitude to him for his loyalty and dedication during his service here.

We wish him well, and good health and happiness for many years ahead. He is returning to live in his Native Kilmuckridge in Co. Wexford. Have no doubt Fr. Hammel will be back many more occasions in the future, to fulfill priestly duties, and also visit his many friends in the area. Happy Retirement Fr. Hammel.

Hi everyone, the club celebrates their 60th anniversary this year and so we hope to come back better than ever. We have successfully joined with arklow rocks this year for u14’s and so will full-fill the age groups of u8-12, u14 with arklow and junior. Our junior girls started back training Tuesday 21st all newcomers welcome. Here’s to 2017 & 60 years.

Community Games
Community Games season has started with our athletics training for the cross country and mixed distance which is been held on Monday 27th in Avondale.

A busy weekend for our local children in team events. Sadly our U11 and U14 Tag Rugby teams who met Westside in Donard GAA grounds for the County final in Wicklow lost out with Westside winning and gong ahead now to Leinster Kick off was at 4pm . They were entertaining games.
On Sunday our U15 Boys team go to Roundwood for the County Badminton finals and playoffs start there at 3pm.
Good luck to you all and enjoy the experience.

Bowls Notes
The members of Annacurra Bowls Club wish our club President Fr. Hammel a very happy retirement. He was a founder member of the Bowls Club when it was founded in 1998, and has been. president since then. Despite not having played himself in recent years, he remained a member, he dropped in very frequently during the tea breaks and attended all our social nights.
Fr. Jim we wish you good health and happiness in your retirement for many years to come.
We still expect to see you drop in for the tea break occasionally, and of course it would be nice to have you call  to some of our social nights.
As our Bowls season continues, we recently played in the Matt O’Neill Memorial Cup in Tinahely. Congratulations to P.J. Hynes, (Tinahely) on winning the competition. Runner Up was John Flood from Annacurra. Our next fixtures in Annacurra with Tinahely are: Thursday 2nd March, final playoff in Agnes Doyle Memorial Cup, Thursday 9th March we play in the Harry Boyd Memorial Cup.
