Carnew notes week February 13th

Carnew Camogie Club

Congratulations to Aoife Darcy, Shauna Keogh, and Maire Doran who were presented with their Leinster Junior Championship medals recently at the Wicklow Camogie County Board’s presentation evening in Lawless’ Hotel, Aughrim.

The trio were on the panel which saw off Louth’s challenge in the Junior Championship final last June, with Shauna playing a pivotal role in the final in Aughrim. The three players are back with the County junior panel again this year which will be participating in the Leinster Junior Championship in May and the All-Ireland Premier Junior Championship in July.

Meanwhile, the U-14s will be hosting a Feile na nGael team in the town in June. This also means that they will be participating in Feile which is being held in the neighbouring counties of Carlow, Wexford, and Kilkenny.

The Senior team will be resuming training this month. Their group in the county competition includes Ballinacor, Donard-Glen, Knockananna, and Glenealy. 

Trainers for the coming year are: Senior, James Doran; U-16s, Sabrina Kavanagh, Maura Farrell; U-14s, Jason Molloy, Vinnie Mulroe, Nuala Dagge; U-12s, Paul Kelly, John Kennedy, Vicki Mulhall; U-10s, Tom Darcy, Diarmuid Doran, Miriam Wafer; U-8s Jason Molloy, Denis Deegan, John Doyle, and a female parent to be arranged.

Carnew St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2017 – For the community, by the community.

Preparations have begun for the annual Carnew St. Patrick’s Day Parade. A public meeting will take place on Thursday 16th February at 8 p.m. in Carnew Training and Development Centre and anyone interested in helping out are welcome to attend. All support will be greatly appreciated in helping to organize a great day out for all of the family. Application forms for parade entries will be available shortly. 

TINAHEALY WALKING CLUB 

On Sunday Feb 19 the walk will be at Derrybawn, (Grade B, 12.5km, 4.5 hours) meeting in Tinahely at 10.30 or Glendalough car park at 10.45. On Sunday Feb 26 the walk will be at Kilbrannish, (Grade B, 12km, 4 hours) meeting in Bunclody at 10.30.Please ensure to wear proper walking boots, to bring adequate food and drink.

SPLIT THE POT

The winner of Scoil Aodan Naofa Carnew split the pot was Anne Lydon winning €280, Pooles voucher was won by Jimmy Barnes and teddy and chocolates by Kathleen Culkin, well done to all.

Carnew and district agricultral show. Thank all who supported the recent table quiz in Corner House Carnew. A very successful night was enjoyed by those that supported the event. The 2017 show will be held on 15th July in Umrigar.
