Carnew notes week February 6th

Kilrush Drama Group – Ibsen’s Classic Drama  “Hedda Gabler’ – Amateur Premier

 

The Amateur Premier of Hedda Gabler by Kilrush Drama opens in St. Brigid’s Hall, Carnew will take place on Friday next the 10th of February. The play will also be performed in Carnew on Sunday 12th.

Directed by Mick Byrne the group are looking forward to their first performance of the new version of Ibsen’s Classic Drama ‘Hedda Gabler’ written by Mark O’Rowe, which premiered at the Abbey Theatre last year.

The title role Hedda will be played by Ellie Willoughby, Bertha will be played by Jane Kinsella, Anne Sheridan will return to the Drama Stage in the role of  the Aunt Julie while Gary Stephens and Maire Doran will play the roles of Eilert Lovborg and Thea. 

Timothy Connaughton  will play George Thesman and the role of  Judge Brack is peing played by Joe Sinnott. Back stage crew are also busy now with preparations with Lar Duffy and crew have built the extravagant set and Jacinta Kavanagh has organised the elaborate costumes.

Makeup artists, Lorna Doran and Maire Doran will do the makeup and sound and lighting technicians, Paddy Byrne and Kevin McEvoy will add their technical expertise to the production, and Tommy Kavanagh is ready to take over as Stage Manager

 
 

Carnew Credit Union Schools Quiz

Congratulations to Robert Quinn, Cian Lancaster, Adam Donohoe, and Scott Dixon on winning Competition A First Round of the Carnew Credit Union Schools Quiz on Friday night last and to Sadhbh Buttle, Brian Kirwan, Erin Callaghan and Fionn Crowe on coming 2nd in Competition B loosing by just 1 point.  This was a great achievement and we wish the winning team all the best in the next round of the Credit Union Schools Quiz to be held in Gorey on Sunday March 5th.

 Well done to all the teams from Ballyellis that took part.

 TINAHELY WALKING CLUB

 On Sunday Feb 12 the walk will be at Curracloe, (Grade C, 8km, 2 hours) meeting at Curracloe car park at 11.00. On Sunday Feb 19 the walk will be at Derrybawn, (Grade B, 12.5km, 4.5 hours) meeting in Tinahely at 10.30 or Glendalough car park at 10.45.
 

Please ensure to wear proper walking boots, to bring adequate food & drink and to pack (or wear) rain gear.

KILRUSH CAMOGIE CLUB: 
Registration Night will take place on Friday 10th February in the clubhouse from 7.30pm to 8.30pm
Tickets for our Fashion  Show on Thursday 23rd February in The Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey will be on sale on the night and are also available from all committee members. 

 

PRIDE IN CARNEW LOTTO

The winner of the 18th January was Caroline Young, seller Victor, there is some places still available for the weekly lotto at €2 as some weeks there is no winner, if you are interested contact Mary on 0539426555 as all proceeds go towards the up keep of Carnew, many thanks to all for their support to date.

SPLIT THE POT

The winner of last weeks Split the Pot for Scoil Aodna Naofa Carnew was Nanny Cullen winning, €260, the previous week was Yvonne Edwards winning €254, the next draw is a Valentines draw on 10th February with 1st prize cash, 2nd Pooles Voucher, 3rd Large Teddy and chocolates, tickets available from the school or local shops.

GAA LOTTO

There was no winner of the GAA lotto numbers were 9,12,16,32, lucky dips were Margaret O’Toole, School Height. Bob Jordan, Community Village. Aishling Balfe and Mary Osborne. The next draw is 13th February in McCrea’s and the jackpot is €4,800.

Carnew First Responders are looking for new people to join the group, the next training weekend for new people is 24th and 25th March,  if you are interested in being trained to administer asprin, do Cpr and use the AED and would like to join then please contact Susanne 0876204562 or Patricia 0872413293.

Carnew Community Care extends sincere thanks to Seamus Levingstone for organising and managing the Rings Tournament in aid of Carnew Community Care on 2nd December 2016 in Kenny’s Corner House, Carnew.

To Mick Kenny for the use of the Corner premises, we extend our grateful appreciation. Thank you to all those who supported the event, donated prizes, bought tickets, €950 was raised for the Day Centre.
