House fire leads gardai to growhouse

A 34-year-old man has been charged in connection with the seizure of cannabis plants worth an estimated €310,000 in Grangecon.

The discovery was made after Gardaí and the Dunlavin fire service were called to a house fire on the morning of Friday the 20th January at Ballyhook.

When the fire was extinguished, gardaí discovered 350 cannabis plants, cannabis herb, and drugs and cultivation paraphernalia.

The house which was unoccupied at the time was substantially damaged.

Gardaí from the Baltinglass District Drugs Unit have arrested a man in the Newbridge area of Kildare.

He was charged and released on bail. He is due to appear before Carlow District Court on 22 February at 10.30 am.
