PLOUGHING MATCH

Roundwood Ploughing Society are holding their annual ploughing match on Saturday the 25th of February, 2017 @ 12 noon sharp in Diamond Hill, Roundwood (reservoir filtering beds).  Sincere thanks to John Byrne for providing the site. Conventional, Vintage, Classic Tractor and Horse Classes will be catered for on Lea ground.  Could all competitors please have their names registered before 6pm on Wednesday the 22nd of February, with Brendan Power @ 087 2420204.  Spectators as always are very welcome and we have a chip van on site for the day

 

PANCAKE/COFFEE MORNING

Keep Shrove Tuesday 28th Feb free for a special fund raising Coffee/pancake morning in Roundwood Parish Centre starting at 9.15am.  A young boy from the village has been diagnosed with cancer and we would like to provide a little extra comfort to him and his family. Please come along and support this very worthy cause while enjoying some delicious pancakes.  For more information contact Elizabeth Belton.

 

ART CLASSES

Roundwood and District Community Council with the support of Kildare Wicklow Education Training Board are running an 8 week art class in Roundwood Parish Hall starting in early February. There are a limited number of places available. Places must be booked in advance. If you are interested please call (0404) 64050 or 086 0499149. If necessary leave a message referring to the art class in Roundwood. 

 

KNOCK PILGRIMAGE

A pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Sunday 23rd April leaving Laragh at 7.30a.m. and Roundwood at 8a.m. sharp.   Breakfast, dinner and bus is €60 per person.  All money to be paid in full before 1st April.  Names to Susan at 087 6273032 anytime a.s.a.p.  Mike Denver in concert in the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy on 23rd March.  Tickets are €30 from the hotel or ticketmaster.  Bus only €25.  Please call Susan on 087 6273032 for more information.

 

MORNING BADMINTON

Tuesday morning Badminton continues in the Sports Complex, Roundwood at 9.30am for approx 1 hour.  Why not drop the children up to school and come join us?  All are welcome.  No need to purchase a racket as there are a few available for our use

 

ALL STARS DINNER DANCE

All Stars Dinner Dance – Tickets available for Club “All Stars” Dinner Dance on Feb 25th, Glenview Hotel. Tickets €25 euro from Chris Brady , Shane Langrell, Lucy Molloy and George Power.

 

LADIES G.A.A. TRAINING

Ladies Training is commencing next Friday February 17th at 7:45 sharp. Training nights will be Tuesdays at 7 and Fridays at 7:45.   All new and former players welcome

 

LUNCH CLUB

A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday 17th February in The Roundwood Inn at 1.30.

 

ITALY FOR EASTER

A trip has been organised to Rome, Assisi & Perugia leaving on the 13th April for seven days.  Cost per person is €649 per person sharing for half board.  Money in full as soon as possible.  All other details from Susan at 087 6273032

LOTTO RESULTS

There was no jackpot winner in last weeks lotto draw.  The numbers drawn were 9, 12, 27 & 29.  There were three match three winners, Caroline DeSousa, S.R. Kavanagh & Gary Kinsella.  Next weeks jackpot will be €11,200

 

ATHLETICS CLUB

Want to get fit / fitter for 2017? Come take part in Roundwood and District Athletic clubs Jogging/running at the GAA pitch every Tuesday at 6:30pm, at the CoachHouse every Thursday at 7pm (running under lights in the village) and at 10am on Sundays at the Vartry Dam. Beginners and experienced runners all welcome. Set a goal of 10K for Easter or 5K for St Patricks Day, you decide!! We’ll help you reach your goal so layer up in warm comfy gear and come along.

Nancy O Brien and Monica Brady secured 1st place for North/South on Monday 6th February, 2nd Ger Lenihan and Paddy O Brien 3rd Maura Gaskin and Pamela Byrne and 4th Pauric Gleeson and Gaye Mcgettigan.   Taking 1st place for East/West were Marian Davis and Teresa Leahy, 2nd Brid Clancy and Bridie Nolan , 3rd Rachel Judd and Molly Byrne and 4th Catherine Halligan and Catherine McGillycuddy

 

002 BRIDGE CLUB.

North/South winners on Friday 10th February were Jim McNamara and Gaye McGettigan, 2nd Monica Brady and June Digby, 3rd Liz Belton and Phil Kenna and 4th Teresa Leahy and Marian Davis.  Playing their cards right for East/West were Rachel Judd and Molly Byrne, 2nd Margaret Bolger and Noeleen Redmond, 3rd Kay Plunkett and Mary Murphy and 4th Alice Chadwick and Gayle Weldon.

 

CEILI FIGURE DANCING

Any adults interesting in reliving their youth when we all learned to Ceili dance? There are Ceili dancing lessons in the Parish Hall in Roundwood on Wednesday nights starting at 8pm for an hour.  It’s learning to ceili dance in a fun and friendly manner (solo and group dances).  Just come along on the night

 

PURE MILE

The next meeting for residents and anyone interested in the Baltynanima Pure Mile will take place at 7:30pm on Monday 20th of February at 7:30pm in Roundwood Parish Hall. All welcome

 

MEN’S SHED

Meetings/Activities continue on Tuesdays in Knockraheen at Pat Carr’s place from 10 to 12 a.m. Preparations are underway for vegetable growing in raised beds – double or single. So come along and book your free bed. ‘Together we will make them grow’. Beekeeping is on the agenda and wood turning has commenced and if you have any expertise/experience in either area  your help and guidance will be appreciated.  Shed members volunteered recently to help erect a wooden backdrop to the 1916 commemorative memorial in the village. The work was undertaken and completed under the stewardship of Colm, one of the SHEDDERS.  The 121 (one to one) phone/laptop/tablet tuition classes are still ongoing in Coláiste Chraobh Abhann on Fridays – 11.15 to 12.30. Unlike normal school, the mature students are learning to text and mail during class and the young helpful, patient, tolerant transition year students are very understanding. A search is underway to find an APP to help us mature students to remember what we are learning. No classes on 17th and 24th of February but classes will resume again on Friday 3rd March. Shedders and non shedders – male or female are welcome to attend and it is not too late to join in and attend the remaining classes. ANGEL HEALING

Why not take 2 hours out of your week just for you and join us on a Monday evening at 7.30 in the Parish Hall, Roundwood.  Here you will be part of a group who know that looking after their well being is so important.  You will learn how to meditate and be still. A 45 Card Game takes place every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8.00pm. Teas served. All are welcome.

SET DANCING

Roundwood Set Dancing continues every Thursday night from 9pm til 11pm in Kavanagh’s Lounge, Roundwood.  Music this month is CD’s and we will have the O’Kane Family back playing for us again in March and then live music for the remainder of the year.    Admission remains at €5.  Beginners are always welcome along with anyone looking for a bit of exercise and a fun night out.  We are also doing a bit of jiving, waltzing and quick step before our weekly sessions starting at 8.15pm so anyone wanting to give that a go, is more than welcome.  No additional charge!
