Congratulations to all involved with Wicklow County Ladies on a solid performance in Blessington against near neighbours Carlow on Sunday winning 5-20 to 0-03 having led at half time 1-14 to 0-00.Well done to our own Niamh McGettigan (Vice Captain) and Mick Kavanagh who is part of the management team.

 

It was not to be for the County hurlers in this year’s Bord na Móna Kehoe Cup Final against Maynooth University in Pearse Park Arklow on Sunday as it finished 1-23 to 2-11. Commiserations to our own lads Eoghan O’Mahony, John Connors, Andy O’Brien, George O’Brien, Gerry Connors, Michael Connors, Christy Moorehouse and coach Michael Neary who can now get ready for the National Hurling League.

 

A poor start to the opening Allianz Football League Division 4 game against Leitrim on Sunday at Joule Park Aughrim for Johnny Magee’s Wicklow. Leitrim scored a goal after 45 seconds but Wicklow responded well and were behind at half time on a scoreline of 1-10 to 07. Final score 1-17 to 0-10 to Leitrim. Next up a tough away trip on Saturday 11th February to Fraher Field, Waterford for a 7pm throw in for our County senior lads Dean Healy, Tommy Kelly, John Crowe and Connor Ffrench

 

Best of luck to ladies secretary Stephen McNulty who heads to Dubai on Wednesday to referee the Middle East LGFA Games. Unfortunately he’s not bringing his assistants.

 

We are looking for a volunteers to run the club gear shop at the club Nursery every Saturday in Dunbur. If you can give an hour every second Saturday please contact Club Treasurer Treasurer.stpatricks.wicklow@gaa.ie .

Do you want to Coach on our Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps 2017? If yes complete the Coaches Application Form. Job Description: Coaches must be over 18 years old on the first day of the camp on 3rd July 2017. NOTE: Coaches must be a paid up member of their local GAA club. A Coaching Qualification, code of ethics, Garda Vetting and/or Coaching experience and/or evidence of voluntary coaching/work is mandatory in applying for this position.

Closing Date for return of all Fully completed Coaches Application forms is Friday 7th April 2017. All selected coaches will be paid a weekly wage and put through the revenue system in accordance with Croke Park regulations. You may include any further information in support of your application if necessary.
Note: Late applications will not be accepted or considered and canvassing will disqualify. Selected candidates will be contacted directly on or before Friday 14th April and given dates for mandatory two day training prior to commencement of Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps 2017. If Coaches are not Garda Vetted please apply ASAP through your clubs Children Officer.

Anyone looking for regular club jerseys, hoody’s and half zip training tops they are available in The Sports Room shop beside the Post Office.

 

From January 1st 2017, mouth guards will be mandatory for all adult ladies footballers. OPRO have come on-board with the WGPA to supply mouth guards to all its members who play Ladies Football.

 

GRMA (go raibh maith agat) is the new GAA Membership Card programme providing benefits and rewards to GAA members. It is a ‘thank you’ or ‘go raibh maith agat’ for your involvement in your GAA club, engagement in GAA activities and attendance at games.

Membership Cards will only be distributed to members who have signed up to GRMA online www.grma.gaa.ie. The programme is only available to adult members (over 18’s).

On the 9th of January, the Club Players Association (CPA) was officially launched in Ballyboden St. Endas, the home of the club football champions. Paddy Byrne of Ballymanus GFC  has been nominated as the ‘Wicklow Club Representative’, the role involves getting as many club people registered while also keeping clubs updated on progression of the CPA’s objectives. Online Foundation Hurling course that is being run in the County over the next few weeks. If you would like to do this course please follow the instructions below and complete the online material. On completing the online material Wicklow Coaching & Games will email coaches the date and time of the practical session in their region.

You will first need to register on the E-Learning GAA website http://learning.gaa.ie .

Upon registering on the website, please complete the following steps

– Click on the E-Learning tab on main page.

– Click on the coach option on next page.

– Click Leinster and then Wicklow on the map of Ireland.

– Click the E-Learning tab, open the course Wicklow E-Learning  All County Foundation Hurling Course 2017 029  and register

Coaches must complete all sections of the theory online as well as attend a practical session to receive certification.

Please note there is a monitoring system online that will let us know if coaches have engaged with the material online and the course cannot be completed on a tablet device.         

 

Award 1 Youth/ Adult Football Course will take place in St Patricks GAA Clubhouse on the following Dates & Times:

Wicklow LGFA are running a Level 1 LGFA coaching course on Saturday 11th February at 9.30am. Venue tbc.

Every Sunday Evening 6pm – 7:15pm St Pats U14 Boys football (anyone born in 2003 or 2004) for some fun games to get the season started in the clubhouse Dunbur. It will be in the hall so wear runners. All U14s welcome

 

Every Thursday for six weeks from 9th February from 7-8pm. St. Pat’s and the Camogie Association are running the very successful “Come Hurl with Me” programme for parent and daughters in the hall, Dunbur. This is for girls born in 2007 / 2008 / 2009 / 2010. Helmets and hurls will be available on the night for those who are trying camogie for the first time! Code of Behaviour courses in Ballinakill Centre of Excellence on Monday 13th February and Monday 20th February at 7.30pm

Please note attendance at these code of Behaviour courses must be pre booked and bookings are taken on a first come basis.

 

The County Final of the Scór Sinsear (Senior/O.17) Performance and Quiz competition will take place in St Patrick’s GAA clubhouse on Friday 3rd March. The Performance (Ceili Dancing, Set Dancing, Instrumental Groups, Ballad Groups, Recitation, Sketch/Dramatic Group Act and Solo Singing) Final will commence at 8pm with the Quiz Final beginning at 9pm.

 

Sometime ago Uachtaran CLG, Aoghan O Fearghail established the 150 Committee.  The 150 Committee’s brief is to prepare for the Association’s 150th Anniversary in 2034 and as to what the GAA may be like in 2034.

The Committee is scheduling a meeting in each of the Provinces.  The Leinster meeting (Focus Group) is scheduled for Tuesday 21st February at 7.00p.m. in Aras Laighean.

The participants for February 21st to be a sample of  – County and Club Chairpersons, County and Club Secretaries, County and Club Treasurers, Players (inter-county and clubs), Coaches and Managers, and Schools and further/higher education Institutions.

Topics are the Core Values of the Association:- Community Identity & Inclusiveness, Amateur Status, Player Welfare, Teamwork, Governing the GAA, The Club, Games and Competitions,     Facilities, Marketing and Finance, International

St. Patricks GAA Club have launched the 2017 version of our Last Man Standing fundraising competition for our club. We lost 96 people mainly due to Derry not winning at home against Clare; 50 people had chosen Derry.  In addition Cavan, Mayo, Meath, Galway and Roscommon all failed to win.

Congratulations to those of you through to Week 2.  Please select your team from next week’s fixtures below and send it back via text to 087 6214903 or email to stpatslms@gmail.com on or before next Friday10th February please.  Remember if you chose a Division 1 team in Week 1 you have to choose a Division 2 team in Week 2 and vice versa.

 

St Patricks GAA Club have distributed the GAA National Club Draw tickets for 2017. Tickets are €10 each and there are some fantastic prizes on offer. The draw will take place on 8th March 2017 in Croke Park. It is a great way to support your local club.
Anyone who still have €10 All Ireland Club Draw tickets they need to be returned to any club officer or left in to Dooley Poynton c/o Alan O’Brien before Friday, February 10th 2017.

 

We had no jackpot winners in our Club Lotto this week! Numbers drawn were 18, 23, 25 and 30. The bonus number was 07.

We had no Match three winners.
Thanks to the weekly Club Lotto Sellers who give up their time to help raise funds for the Club. It’s greatly appreciated. The next draw is on Monday 6th February in the Clubhouse. Make sure you buy a ticket each week and you could be the winner of our Match 4 prize €1,800 or Match 5 €10,000 jackpot!
