Sophie Burke, Sara Lawless and Haley Loughlin from Greystones receive their youth award from Superintendent Pat Ward and Chief Superintendent John Quirke at the 2nd Annual Wicklow Garda Youth Awards which was held in the Grand Hotel, Wicklow Town.

The 2nd Wicklow Garda Youth Awards took place on Saturday the 4th of February in the Grand Hotel, Wicklow town.

The awards were sponsored by the County Wicklow Partnership and were hosted by Today FM DJ Philip Cawley.

For the next 9 days Wicklownews.net will post a picture and bio of one of the winning recipients, today we have the Greystones Summer Project .

Greystones Family Resource Centre was established to address the needs of the community within Greystones.  The families of these 3 girls came on board to volunteer and this fantastic example led the 3 girls to become invaluable volunteers themselves.  Prior to being old enough to volunteer, these girls immersed themselves in all youth activities from a very early age and encouraged peers and younger children to do so also.  At the age of 16 they were each Garda vetted and immediately began their training to become leaders.  They attended all meetings and were punctual, honest and capable throughout.  Sophie’s presence in her community has been enormous.  She has always encouraged and supported all members of her community from a very early age.  She displays great leadership qualities and nothing seems to phase her.  She takes on all tasks in the project with confidence and a generous spirit.

Kayla works quietly and excels with her one on one work with the younger children.  She is supportive and caring and helps the children build their confidence by praising them continually.  She has close links with her community and this is very evidence throughout her volunteering work.

Sarah is a bright energetic and creative young lady.  She is quick to notice the shy or quiet child in the group and encourage them to take part, making sure that everyone is included and all enjoy the activities.

These three girls contribution to the Summer Project was invaluable and truly appreciated.  They made a fantastic team and are a great asset to the Greystones community.
