Martina Conyard from Arklow receives her youth award from Superintendent Paul Hogan at the 2nd Annual Wicklow Garda Youth Awards which was held in the Grand Hotel, Wicklow Town.

The 2nd Wicklow Garda Youth Awards took place on Saturday the 4th of February in the Grand Hotel, Wicklow town.

The awards were sponsored by the County Wicklow Partnership and were hosted by Today FM DJ Philip Cawley.

For the next 3 days Wicklownews.net will post a picture and bio of one of the winning recipients, today we have Arklow girl Martina Conyard.

Martina was was nominated by Tommy Breen.

Martina arrived at the Vault Youth Centre to attend the music programme there and she began learning the tin whistle and percussion.  Martina instantly took to these instruments and her confidence in herself began to grow.  Martina excelled with the group work and before long she was ready to lead her own group.  Martina leads a group training percussion to people with special needs on a weekly basis at the Vault Youth Centre.

She volunteers on a weekly basis and is extremely popular with her young group from Sunbeam.  Martina has gone from strength to strength and displayed great patience, kindness and courage.  She is now planning further studies in Bray next year and we wish her all the luck in the world.
