AA warn motorists as MET Eireann issue Status Yellow Alert

MET Eireann have issued a nationwide Status Yellow Alert.

From 6pm (1st), the same warning will be in effect for Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Roscommon and Mayo until 9am tomorrow (2nd).

This evening

Rain will spread northeastwards this evening, with heavy falls of hail, sleet and some snow in places. Becoming windy later this evening as clearer more showery conditions develop, accompanied by fresh to strong southwest to west winds, with a possibility of severe gusts in southern coastal parts.

Fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds, with severe gusts in southern coastal regions, will gradually ease overnight. Rain will continue for a time in the north of the province, turning increasingly wintry. Clearer conditions will extend from the south later. Lows of 0 to 3 degrees.

AA Roadwatch are advising motorists to watch out for wind blown debris on secondary routes in particular and be mindful of cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians in windy conditions.
