Margaret Brady and Anne Thornton represented our Active Retirement group at the Wicklow County Council meeting held in Aughrim on Wednesday March 8th in the Sports Complex. Members intending to walk in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, please meet outside the church after the 10.30.am. Mass. We are hoping for a good turnout of members. On Sunday March 19th, at 11 a.m. the bell at “Church of the Sacred Heart” will ring as Aughrim parish joins the countrywide “Joy of Bells” Initiative. The “Joy of Bells” initiative is about showing solidarity and respect for migrants and refugees in Ireland. In ringing the bells across the country, we proclaim our Christian witness and proclamation of faith, trust, love, reconciliation and joy and that every migrant is welcome. The Irish Catholic Bishops have invited all parishes to support the initiative by Maria Jansson, the Church of Ireland Dean of Waterford Cathedral, and former President of Ireland Mary McAleese.
St Patrick’s Day Fishing Competition
There will be a fishing competition at the NDAF “Fishing for All” Angling Facility, Rednagh Road, Aughrim on Friday March 17th from 12 – 3pm. Prizes – Plaques and Fishing Vouchers for heaviest Senior catch of the day and Junior catch of the day. Six 2kg trout put into lake especially for the competition! Church of the Sacred Heart Aughrim

It’s a busy time with community games with a lot of activities going on at area, county and Leinster levels.
Our children are currently doing art and handwriting in the schools and I believe we have budding artists and lovely hand writers. On Monday nights we are training for the upcoming cross country in Avondale on Monday March 27th in Avondale Park hosted by Rathdrum community games with Bill Porter.
Well done to the children who took part in County Wicklow swimming finals on Saturday. They were great. The County Table Quiz takes place on Friday March 24th in Annacurra community centre with teams competing from all areas. The Leinster finals are continuing too with our U15 girls soccer playing against Kildare in round 1 and our U15 boys badminton meeting Dublin in round 2. Good luck to everybody.
