Bray man who bit his former partner avoids jail

A Wicklow man who beat his girlfriend and bit her in the face has received a suspended sentence.

Ian Sheridan 32 with an address in Bray escaped a custodial sentence despite committing a very attack on the victim according to Judge Melanie Greally.

However, she said that despite that fact that the victim was subjected to an horrendous attack in their then home, she wouldn’t impose a custodial sentence.

She told the court that the accused had battled significant ‘demons’, including alcahol and drug abuse.

Judge Greally imposed a three year sentence on Sheridan but suspended it on the basis that he agreed to keep the peace for the duration and engage with the restorative justice programme.

She also noted that he offered the victim, Patricia Rodriguez €1,600 in compensation which would be donated to a women’s refuge as his former partner didn’t want it.

Sheridan pleaded guilty to assault causing harm on February 21st, 2015.

The court heard that on the evening in question the pair had an argument before Sheridan carried out a sustained attack on Ms Rodriguez.

It was also heard that Ms Rodriguez had pleaded with Sheridan to stop.
