The Roundwood Historical Society’s next talk in the 2017 Series will take place on Tuesday, March 14th at 20.00 in the Roundwood Parish Hall and will be given by Therese Hicks. The title of the talk is “The Kennedys of Mount Kennedy”. Following more than two years research Therese’s talk will follow the Kennedy family’s fortunes until the death of the last male heir. The presentation will take us from the mid 1500s to 1710. The 17th century was an especially turbulent one, and the story of Mount Kennedy is a good illustration of that chapter of Irish history. Therese is originally from Philadelphia. She worked with an Irish missionary community for a number of years in West Africa and then returned to the US and retrained as a psychotherapist. She settled in Ireland in 1998, and worked initially in psychiatry and then in primary care before retiring in 2014. We look forward to welcoming you on Tuesday 14th for what promises to be a very interesting talk on the background to the Manor of Mount Kennedy, the Kennedy family – who were they actually and how they leant their name to the now famous local town. Members and non-members are welcome to attend. The entrance fee for members is €3 and for non-members is €5 – payable at the door.
