Warning to motorists as snow and ice forecast

Gardai and the AA are warning motorists to be extra careful on the roads tonight and tomorrow morning.

Showers are expected overnight and tomorrow morning. Some dangerous driving conditions can be expected as road temperatures are likely to be close to freezing or below.

MET Eireann Met Eireann have issued a Status Yellow Weather Warning for snow across the country, the warning is valid from 8pm today until midday tomorrow.

Passing well scattered showers this evening and overnight, with ongoing risk of sleet and hail. A light dusting of snow may occur very locally. Long clear spells at times too, but with the risk of frost and ice as temperatures falling back close to or below freezing. A breezy or even windy night ahead too, with fresh and gusty west to southwest winds.


Tomorrow, Tuesday, will be a cold day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells – scattered showers of rain, sleet and hail. Afternoon highs of only 6 to 8 degrees, with an added wind chill. Feeling coldest across the midlands. Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds will however ease by early afternoon.
