Arklow RNLI assist research vessel

Arklow Lifeboat was launched at  12.00 on Wednesday to assist a research vessel which had developed engine trouble. Initial assistance was given by the crew of the Windfarm support vessel (also lifeboat crew) had  managed to get the 5metre research rib alongside. Due to work constraints they were unable to assist the vessel back to Arklow.

In calm seas Arklow Lifeboat arrived on scene and a towline was established to the rib and it was towed safely back to Arklow with all 5 crew staying safely aboard.

Speaking following the incident, Mark Corcoran, Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer & Community Safety Officer said, “Thanks to the experience of the people on board, the decision was made to call for help, making this decision at the earliest possible time is the key to our volunteers making it to the casualty vessel or persons on time”
