Aughrim notes week April 17th


Community Games

It’s been a busy few weeks.  Great turnout at the County Cross Country hosted by Billy Porter and Rathdrum community games with nine of our athletes going forward to the National Festival in Abbotstown on May 6th.

Our U15 Boys badminton team went on to Leinster in Carlow played very well but unfortunately got knocked out in the semifinals.
The Art and Handwriting has been judged locally and gone on to the next round for the overall judging to see who goes forward to County Finals on Sunday
May 28th in Dunlavin NS. Those results should be back by beginning of May.

Thank you to all our local schools who facilitated the competition and we are very grateful for their continued support.

The County talent finals take place on Sunday 14th May in Glenealy. Registration at 12.30 with a 1.00pm start. We have a few entries for singing and dancing.

Any other child interested please contact me before May 5th.

Our local area athletic finals will take place on Monday 24th April in the community field. Registration is at 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start. Races start from toddlers to U16 distances. It’s a lovely evening so please come along and support. All finalists will go on to represent their area in Shillelagh on Saturday 10th June.

Active Retirement

The next committee meeting will be held on Friday April 21st. at 10.30am in Lawless’ Hotel. The screening of ‘Homecoming’ which was filmed in and around Aughrim by Sinéad O’Loughlin will be shown in the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely at 8pm.on Thursday 20th April. This film will be followed by ‘Viva’, a feature film set in Cuba.. Admission/Tickets is €10.  At our monthly meeting on 2nd May a demonstration will be given by ‘First Responders’..

Pottery Classes

The numbers: 2, 4, 7 and 24 were drawn in the Sports club lotto on Monday April 10th.  Match three winners were: A.C.C.A Linehan, Colorado, USA, c/o
Nancy Linehan and Marion Canavan, Avoca.  The jackpot was not won. The jackpot is €7550.
