St Brigid’s Hall, Carnew, was a hive of activity on Friday evening 7th of April, when over seventy children along with their parents came along to celebrate the achievement on the playing fields of Wicklow during last year.
“MC” for the night, James Doran, welcomed everyone and got proceedings started by calling Mr Kevin O’Donnell up on stage to present the medals. Brendan Lawrence, a prize winning photographer and sports reporter, was on hand to take pictures of each child as they were being presented with their medals. Jimmy Reid was present to provide up to the minute latest hits that kept the boys and girls bopping all night on the dance floor. Lisa Kennedy, Audrey Cullen and friends kept the refreshments out to parents and children alike.
John Kennedy on door security made sure the children were kept safe and no one was allowed wander outside the hall. Mentors were also thanked and praised for their commitment during the year. Chairman Ken Redmond and Secretary Maurice Sheil who organised the event would like to say a sincere thanks to the parents and children for making the night such a success, and a word of thanks to John Doyle who organised the hall, and also Father Casey for his kind permission for the use of the premises. Hope to see you all next year, Juvenile Secretary, Maurice Sheil.

MAY PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK DISCONTINUED 2017
It is with great regret we must inform you that from this year onwards, no further May Pilgrimages to Knock will take place from Carnew Community Care. The reason for this is that the Sisters have transferred from St Mary’s to another location in Knock, and secondly, the number of Pilgrims making a May Booking from Carnew and surrounding areas have decreased considerably in recent years, making the cost of transport more expensive for each person.
Sr Mary tanks most sincerely all who over the years travelled to Knock with Carnew Community Care. It has been her privilege to accompany for the past nine years, those who desired to pray in a special way to Our Lady of knock. may each one be blessed as they journey onward through life.
There was no winner of the GAA lotto , numbers were 7.15.25,26, lucky dips were Sean Kinsella, Croneyhorn. Lucy Moss, 10 Covesbrook, Carnew. L and R Byrne, c/o Tom Culkin. Aisling Kinsella, c/o Cosia Mia. The next draw was 24th April in McCrea’s and the jackpot was €5,800.
Carnew ladies GAA are holding a field day on this Sunday 30th April at 2pm in the sports field with races, games, lucky dip, duck race, BBQ and much more, admission €5 adults, children free, all welcome.
Congratulations to Patrick Austin and Paula Hourigan, Kilcavan who were married on Friday.
