The Aughrim U11 football team has started the year well. They are in Group 4 of the league, have played 4 games and remain unbeaten. They beat Avoca 3-02 to 1-04 and Coolboy 4-05 to 4-03 and have drawn with Avondale 5-05 to 4-08 & Michael Dwyers 5-04 to 3-10. the coaches are working hard with these players and it is fantastic to see the numbers at training increase as the year progresses. With a bit more work these lads have the potential to be very good players in the years to come.
The Aughrim U11 hurlers are in Div 1 of the league and have had 2 games to date. They were very unlucky to loose to Carnew on a score of 7-00 to 5-04 and put in a very good performance against St Pats before going down on a score of 7-09 to 4-09. The players are now putting in the work at training and it will only be a matter of time before these results are reversed.
The U13 football team has played 4 and won 4 to date, putting us some serious scores on their way to some easy wins.
The U13 hurlers had a good win over Carnew in their only game to date.
The U14 hurlers qualified for the All-Ireland Feile na nGael to be held in Wexford/Kilkenny this year beating Glenealy and Carnew along the way, we are looking forward to following the team from June 16-18 in Kilmore, Co. Wexford and we hope the club as a whole gets behind the team.
The Derry Gaels U15 footballers are also doing very well in the Div 2 league beating St Kevins and Kilquade Gaels and drawing with Rathnew, they have important games V AGB and Clara Gaels coming up soon. The Luke O’ Toole’s U15 hurlers lost to Avondale Parnells 2-07 to 2-05 in their only outing to date, while the U17 team lost out to Carnew in their only game to date.
All in all a very busy start to the year. It is great to see huge numbers dotting the Community field on a Tuesday night, but we would again appeal to parents to come forward and offer your help to the coaches, no experience necessary, and the more people that get involved the easier the sessions become for everyone.Summer Camp
