Match reports

Senior  football

The Senior men’s football team picked up their first win of the league last Tuesday and then quickly followed that up with the second five days later. The first match was against Eire Og at home and the local rivalry added to spice to the encounter. Eire Og got off to a flyer with scoring a goal in the very first minute but the Emmets settled themselves and score 5 unanswered points in the next 15 minutes from five different players. The fast pace of the game continued for the remaining of the half with both teams knocking over some lovely points and Bray finished the half stronger with club captain Des Kelly and Niall McGraynor both finishing with 3 points each for the half.

The opening minutes of the second half saw a fantastic team goal finished off by returning country player Niall Gaffney but Eire Og went straight down the other end of the pitch to score a goal after a great save from Paul O’Keeffe. An ankle injury to impressive wing back Conor O’Doherty meant a reshuffle in the half back line and Eire Og scores 3 unanswered points to bring them back to within 2 points. With the game in the balance two well worked moves produced two goals for Bray with Des and Niall McGraynor both adding to their personal tally on the day. Bray ran out six point winners on a  score line of 3-13 to 2-10.

Last Sunday the Seniors travelling down to Dunlavin with the intend on not only putting two strong performances back to back but also to ensure that Dunlavin were repaid for their opening day victory in Emmet park in February. Bray made four changes to the starting 15 with Mark Linehan, Eoin McCormack, Padraig Doyle and Liam Benville all starting. It took Bray a while to settle into the game and found themselves 4 points to 1 down after 14 minutes and were guilty of not taking the right options when they found themselves in scoreable positions.  A nicely taken score from Adam Dixon was soon followed with a well taken goal from Cathal Magee to give Bray the lead. Bray then lost Philly Haughton to a black card and which meant a few positional changes in the team but the Emmets finished the half strongly with another great team goal which was started by tenacious corner back Mark Linehan.

The first eight minutes of the second half was most impressive all year with Bray scoring 3-2 without reply which should gave the lads a healthy lead. Dunlavin threatened a comeback with a couple of points and a goal but Bray knocked over another six points to end the game 5-11 to 1-11.

This week both the Junior footballers and the Seniors will try to keep both of the winning streaks going and your support is more than welcome :

U15 Hurling

Cuala B 1-05 Bray Emmets 10-06

An outstanding team performance from 1 to 15 saw Bray Emmets establish an unassailable dominance by half time in this highly entertaining Division 4 clash on Sunday 28/05 in Thomastown. From the off Bray brought an intensity that Cuala Bs struggled to match. Excellent harrying and a steady supply of good ball into the full forward line lead to a steady stream of scores , Brian and Zak and Sam scoring 2 goals each in the opening half, and with Brian and Ben adding points, Emmets went into half time leading 6-04 to 1-02. All over the pitch players put in season best performances. Aaron, Tadhg Mac and Eoin were super in the backs, Sam and Cathal dominated midfield and Rian was excellent at half forward. Brian and Zack’s movement and score taking were a joy, with Brian putting on an exhibition of corner forward play.

Cuala B rallied after half time and the second half was highly competitive with scores drying up for both sides. Ben swapped with Fionn in goals and Fionn took some fine scores, and Sam and Brian added more goals to their fine tallies. The defence was completely in control and great work by everyone restricted Cuala B to 3 points in the second half

Team: Fionn (1-2), Tadhg A, Aaron, Jack T, Tadhg Mac, Adam, Eoin H, Cathal, Sam(3-0), Andrew, Ben(0-1), Rian, Conor, Zack(3-0), Brian (4-03), Daniel M, Dan, F, Jamie.
