Pentecost Sunday

Come celebrate with us on  Sunday 4th June for a special Mass to mark the feast of Pentecost in  St. Kevin’s Church, Kilaveney, Tinahely at 11am.  Pentecost Sunday is a Day of Special Prayer to celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the Christian Church. All are welcome.

Carnew Musical Society – AIMS Nomination

Heartiest congratulations to Jennifer Byrne on being nominated as Best Actress for her role as Golde in Carnew Musical Society’s production of Fiddler on the Roof . The nominations were announced at the AIMS Choral Festival last weekend and the Awards night will take place in Killarney on Saturday the 17th of June when the winners will be announced.


On Sunday June 4, the walk will be at Railway Walk – Garryhoe (Grade C, 8km, 2 hours) meeting in Tinahely at 11.00. On Sunday June 11, the walk will be at Kilbrannish – St Johns Hill (Grade B, 17km, 4 hours) meeting in Tinahely at 9.30, Bunclody car-park at 10.00. Please ensure to wear proper walking boots, to bring adequate food & drink and to pack (or wear) rain gear.

Come join our Two Exciting Summer Camps not to be missed.  Venue: Carnew National School, Date: 17th- 21st July, Age group: 4-12, Time: 9.30-12 (Art Camp) 12-1 (Activity Camp).  Art in the morning ( Candles with Photo/Sculpture/ T-Shirts Design/ Art & Science Projects & lots more, with art competition on the last day).  Activity camp in the afternoon (Introduction to Tae-Kwon-Do, circuit training, exercise to music & lots more). 


Presentation of medals & certs on the last day.

Carnew and district Agricultural show committee are organising the schedule for the show, it  will soon be available on line or contact Noelle 087 1429325 . Show will take place in Umrigar on Saturday 15th July. The committee would appreciate support in sponsorship and help to run the show this year. On Sat 3rd of June there will be 2 great Novelty matches in Carnew Emmets GAA grounds @6pm . Adm Adults €5 Children free . The original 1985 Carnew hurling feile winning team will take on the present Carnew 2017 feile team and The present 2017 Carnew Camogie feile team will take on their mother/aunties.
These games will prove to be very entertaining in more ways than one. So please come out and support and watch skill, speed and stiffness together on one pitch.

The annual patron in Askamore is Sunday 4th June at 1pm, please bring home all your rubbish and don’t dispose of in the grave yard, many thanks.


Carnew Community Care Boutique shop are holding a sale for June with Euro rails, bargains galore on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11.30 am – 3.30pm, all welcome.


Carnew Community Care will host Siobhan Rice who will give two taster yoga classes on Tuesday 13th June 2017, an 11am class chair Yoga class will be for those in their 70’s and 80’s and a floor (mat) Yoga class at 11.45am for those over 50.

Siobhan has many years experience of teaching yoga. her approach appreciates that everybody is different and that people come to yoga with different abilities and needs. Siobhan adapts to suit individuals and integrates yoga postures and movement, breath and attention for better physical and mental health and enhanced awareness. Baltinglassand District country market will be hosting a Bee keeping and honey demonstration, provided by our own honey supplier on the June Bank holiday weekend Saturday 3rd June from 10 am – 1pm in Stratford Lodge Old School, Church Lane , Baltinglass, all welcome to come along.


Carnew GAA lotto was not won, numbers were 25,26,27,31, lucky dips were Denis Kenny, Malton Park. JH and B c/o Jimmy Barnes. Pierce Doyle, Kilcavan. Tom Collins, c/o Snowy.  The next draw is 6th June in Jim Byrnes and the jackpot is €6,400, tickets only €2 from players or local shops.


Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Willie Stedman, Tinahely who died during the week, his remains were removed to Kilpipe on Wednesday for 3pm service and burial took place in the adjoining church yard.

To the family and relatives of Andy Kennedy, Kilrush who died during the week and was buried on Thursday.

To Mary Bolger, Ballingate, her family and relatives on the death of her father during the week.

Carnew Camogie

Preparations are ongoing for Feile na nGael when we host Burt, Co Donegal, over the weekend of June 16-18. The U-14s are maintaining their League schedule with recent wins against Eire Og Greystones, Glenealy, and Aughrim, and a loss to Kiltegan. In terms of fundraising, a table quiz was held in Hogan’s The Lodge on May 19 and next weekend will see the U-14s take on their mothers in a novelty match. This will be held in the pitch on Saturday at 6pm and should be great fun!

Meanwhile, the U-12 League campaign has started with our side having played Arklow Rocks and Avondale in the first two rounds. They face off against Donard-Glen this coming Friday. The U-10s played a blitz last Saturday against Knockananna, Annacurra, Arklow Rocks, and Ballinacor. They and the U-8s are out again in the county blitz in the GAA Centre of Excellence in Ballinakill on June 14.

Meanwhile, the U-16 League has finished with Kiltegan as overall winners, and the U-16s and adult team are now on an exam break.
