Bealtaine Festival –A month of Celebration of Arts for Older People

Our last event for the Bealtaine Festival is on May 29th with Laurence High School Band from Kanvas, USA. The concert starts at 12pm. All are welcome to attend this free event and any other part of the Bealtaine Festivities in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. ( Groups must be booked in by calling 0404 45600 or emailing brockaghresourcecentre@gmail.com). Active Retirement Laragh/Glendalough would like to thank anyone who participated or organised an event in the month of ‘Celebration of Arts for Older People’ with our yearly, Bealtaine Festival.

 

Laragh/Glendalough Active Retirement

On the 7th of February AR members and members of the Sunbeam services enjoyed an active and fun exercise class before attending their monthly lunch in Lynhams.

On Valentine’s Day 2017, Joan Kavanagh gave a very interesting and informative talk  about the history of Laragh/Glendalough in reference to the photo display in the Brockagh’s, Exhibition Room.  One interesting piece of information was that a Post Office has been in the area for 121 years. The community and AR members enjoyed refreshments afterwards and shared their own memories and stories of the local area.

 

Brockagh Art Group Summer Exhibition

An exhibition of paintings by members of Brockagh Art Group will open next Friday in Glendalough Green Cafe, Laragh, May 19th to 30th, marking the end of year for students of Almha Roche’s Wednesday morning art class in the Brockagh Centre. Almha is an artist from Laragh who teaches adult and children’s classes locally. Paintings in Oil, Acrylic and Watercolour will be on show in a variety of styles. Artists include José O’ Connor, Margaret Conroy, Nancy Falkow, Jackie Stuart, Enda Fitzpatrick, Deborah Von Metzradt, Lisa Mahony and Almha Roche. 

 

Integrated Energy Therapy Classes                                                                                                         

IET Basic Level Course in Energy Therapy, healing with the energy of Angel Aerial. One day course to include full course manual and certificate on Saturday 11th of June at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. Contact Angela on 085 8132647 or email ahtherapy1@gmail.com for more information.

 

Glendalough Car Boot Sales                                                                                                                  

Takes place on the first Sunday of the month except for January with the next date being Sunday, 4th June. Last month we had a huge number of stalls with everything from cream cakes, scones, bread and jam, plants, antiques, clothing, jewellery etc. Vans must be booked in. Car park spaces for the next month or so will be limited so please pre-book indoor spaces early. Elevation School of Performing Arts                                                                                                 

Presents its 10 Year Anniversary show, Something Old, Something New on Saturday June 3rd at 6pm in Brockagh Resource Centre. This is a celebration of everything dance and drama from all of our students across all the campuses. We invite everyone young and young at heart to come along, students and supporters past and present to come along and join in the celebrations with us. Kate’s dance students and Kerry’s Drama students will be finishing up for the Summer months on the 7th of June but will see you when new season starts, Autumn 2017,

 

Co.Wicklow Older Peoples Network AGM                                                                                           

The Wicklow Age Friendly Strategy 2017 -2022 is being launched at the AGM of the Co. Wicklow Older Person’s Council on May 26th  by Minister Simon Harris. The AGM is in the Brockagh Resource Centre, 10am to 3.45. A talk from Brendan Martin, County Librarian and John Gill, Crime Prevention Officer, Wicklow. Active Retirement Outings                                                                                                                      

AR are organising a trip to Wexford Whytes Hotel on Tues 20th to the Thursday 22th of June and there are still places left for anyone interested in a small holiday break. Contact Denise on 0404 45600, for more information or to book a place on the trip.

McGrath-Flood School of Irish Dancing Coming to Brockagh Centre/Laragh

High Intensity Fitness Dane (H.I.F.D)                                                                                                                                                       

Just pop in on Wednesday evenings at 7pm in the Brockagh Centre to dance your socks off with Adam and the class in cardio exercise dancing, dropping those extra calories. Citizen’s Information Clinic                                                                                                                         

The Citizens Information Centre at the Brockagh Resource Centre is open for information relating to your rights and entitlements from 10 am until noon on the first and third Tuesday of each month. No appointment is necessary for this free and confidential service.

 

Evening Yoga with Viva                                                                                                                                                                     

Viva’s yoga classes are for beginners to advance on Wednesdays at 7pm in the Brockagh Centre. Wear comfortable clothes on the night and bring a blanket. Mats are available on the night. Walking  group in the Brockagh                                                                                                            

Monday mornings weekly at 10am join the walking group with Get Ireland Walking at the Brockagh Resource Centre for a walk around Glendalough area for approximately one hour. In association with Get Ireland Walking, Wicklow Local Sports Partnership & Brockagh Resource Centre. All ages and abilities are welcome.
