The long journey to Blessington (some by the Wicklow gap & others via the M50 – Tallaght exit) was made last Friday evening, for our third outing in the County football Division 4 league.
With a win and a draw already banked, we knew this match would be a tough assignment and it certainly proved that. A rip roaring affair, in which Blessington hung onto our “coat tails” throughout the game, which kept supporters from both sides vocal & on their toes for the hour.
Holly Mc Sorley, Heather McInerney, Leanne O Neill , Layla Hitchen, Nadia Laasrri, Ava Rose Lawless, Ava Rawsom & Lauren Gregory were but a few, to put in superb performances on the night. We lead 4-03 to 3-04 at half time after putting in a sterling performance on the main “Croke Park” size Blessington pitch.
The second half was nip and tuck and despite getting ourselves into a winning position on three occasions, our hosts in fairness never gave up and hauled our lead in each time. With 6 minutes to go we again found, ourselves four points ahead, but fatigue and 60 minutes running just caught us short and Blessington hit us with 1-1 and managed to save the game. However, credit must go the 17 girls who refused to throw in the towel and battled away, and never gave up from start to finish.
