Annacurra notes week June 15th

Field Day
Roll Up ! Roll up! its time for the Annacurra Field day again.  Come along and join in the fun! The venue is Cumann Lúthchleas Gael’s ( GAA) Annacurra Park on Sunday next 18th June from 2-5pm.
Apart from  our bouncy castle, we boast duck racing, bottle stall, cake stall, plant stall, tea/coffee tent, etc.  And if the weather stays fine and we don’t need to wear our wellies on the day we may even have a wellie throwing competition.
After the big draw at 5pm all are invited to the Saltee to enjoy ceol agus craic provided by local musicians and singers.    See you there le cúnamh Dé.
All those  who have not yet returned tickets for the Parish Field Day draw are requested to do so at their earliest convenience sold or unsold before Sunday 18th June if possible. They may be dropped in to any of the following Betty Carey, Anne Byrne, Eilish Byrne, Maura Whelan, May O’Brien, Mary O’Neill, Séanna Mac Seoin.

Community Games
The County Wicklow Athletic Finals took place on Saturday 10th June in Shillelagh.  Despite the mixed weather the sky cleared and a wonderful day was had by all.  Our Gold Medal winners now go on to represent County Wicklow at the National Finals in Abbotstown County Dublin 19th and 20th of August.
Our Gold Medal Winners were:
U13 Mixed Relay Team of Sean, Saidhbh, Eoghan and Alice.  U10 200m Cassie O’Byrne. 
Silver Medal Winners were:
U6 Mixed Relay Team of Izzy, Cait, Patrick and Jamie.  U8 80m Colman O’Byrne. U14 100m Sean Weld.  U16 1500m Niamh Byrne  U12 Long Puck Alex Kavanagh
U14 Javelin Alice Kirwan. 
Bronze Medal winners were:
U8 60m Lucy Weld. U10 100m Alannah Murphy.  U14 100m Caoimhe Murphy.  U16 100m Anna Lalor.  U12 600m Sarah Doyle. U14 800m Caolin Goetelen.  U16 1500m Paraic Doyle.  U12 Ball Throw Marc O’Shea.  
Congratulations to everyone involved.  We have a couple more weeks before training breaks up for the Summer.
Thank you to all the support from the Coaches, Parents, Committee and of course our wonderful children. 2017 has been a great year for the club.
Book Launch
One of our oldest members, Paddy Behan has wrote a book on his life.
He is Launching the book In the Club House of Coollattin Golf Club, on 
Thursday 22nd June at 8pm. The Title is  …  Part of this Place.
I’m sure you know Paddy, from Shilleagh.
He is 88 years old. Born in April 1929.
He started working in Coollattin Estate in 1943 and despite retiring previously,
he finally only retired fully about 18 months ago.
He was head Green Keeper of Coollattin Golf Club for many years, since the last of the Fitzwilliam family left Coollattin Estate in the late 1970’s.
He is fully active mind and body, still plays golf a few times a week.
Gaa Lotto
Results for  June 5th  . No jackpot winner. Numbers drawn 3-8-17-21. Match 3 winners;  Richie Doyle, Killacloran Cross; Eoghan Moore c/o Shannons; Deirdre O’Neill, Aughavanagh . Jackpot stands at €5.800 euro. Draw held in Saltee on Monday night.
Whist Drive
There will be a whist drive in Annacurra Community centre on Saturday night next  June 17  starting at 9 pm
Fr. Peter McVerry.
Well known campaigner for the homeless Fr. Peter McVerry will celebrate Mass with Fr. Raymond Gahan in St. Kevin’s Church, Kilaveney, Tinahely on Saturday 8th July at 7.30p.m.  Fr. McVerry’s life work has been to provide practical support to homeless people and other vulnerable groups. Fr. McVerry will give the homily at this Mass. The theme of his homily will be “Homelessness – a challenge for the Gospel”.   All are welcome.
