Nine local charities received a financial boost at the Arklow Lions Club’s annual donation event in the Old Ship last week.
The nine charities to benefit from this year’s round of donations are Tiglin, Arklow Asthma Society, Arklow Community First Responders, Arklow Lourdes Group, the Alzheimer’s Society Arklow, the Friendship Centre, Arklow Springboard, Arklow Cancer Support and the new Samaritans office on the Paramount Arcade.
St Colman’s residential care centre and the Arklow RNLI also received donations earlier this year.
“The Arklow Lions Club hold regular fundraisers throughout the year, so it’s always with a great sense of satisfaction that we present these great organisations with our donations each year,” said club president Pat Byrne.
“We are particularly delighted to have made a donation to the Arklow Samaritans for the very first time.
“This group of dedicated volunteers provide a life-saving service to our town and receive over 15,000 local calls each year from people in need.”
The Lions Club’s next fundraiser is their popular golf classic, which will be held on June 16th in the Arklow Golf Club.
The cost for the event is €100 for a fourball, with refreshments on the ninth hole and a reception afterwards with prize-giving.
