Sincere sympathy is extended to Doreen Rickerby, Tombreane, her family and relatives on the death of her mother Mary Murphy, Enniscorthy who died last week and was buried on Friday.


We congratulate the Leaders, Guides and Brigins of the Carnew Branch of the Catholic Guides of Ireland on their enrolment ceremony last Monday evening in Carnew Church. This was the 15 Enrolment of Girl Guides since their foundation in 2002. Some of the leaders from the start are still involved, others have joined recently. Parents, Leaders and Sr Mairead took part in the church ceremony. The Guides invite young people or leaders to join. Meetings take place at St Brigid’s Hall on Mondays.

Carnew Musical Society – Sister Act

The Hope Cancer Support Centre will hold their annual Summer Solstice 5K Walk  and Ceremony of Light and Healing in Curracloe Beach on Wednesday  21st June at 8pm. Everyone invited  to come along and be part of this very special ceremony and to enjoy a peaceful and serene walk on this beautiful beach.


The Coolboy GAA Juveniles members and the committee wish to thank all those who supported our last two fundraising events. We raised a total of €500 from the Cake Sale (held in April) and €648 from the Car Wash (held in June) making a total of €1148!!


Shillelagh Area Community Games claimed a record haul of 33 medals at the recent County Wicklow Community Games Athletics Final held in Shillelagh on 10th June 2017. We won 9 gold; 2 silver and 17 bronze. Our gold medal winners: Luke Hilliard (U8 80m);  Ava Hilliard, Georga Rossiter, Myron Davidson, Cormac Murphy, Evie Moroney, Lee Dagge (all U10 Mixed Relay); Emma Mulhall, Yasmin Dagge, Sadhbh Houlihan, Eimear Murphy (all U12 Relay); Kieran O’Neill (U12 Ball Throw); Oran O’Callaghan (U14 100m & U14 Relay); Brandon Rossiter, Ryan Hilliard, Patrick Murphy, Wiktor Kosinski (all U14 Relay); Toby McGuire (U14 Long Jump); Evan O’Neill (U14 Javelin); Aran Joyce (U16 200m) and Kyle McLaughlin (U16 Discus) have all now qualified to represent Wicklow at the Community Games All-Ireland Athletics Final due to be held at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown on Aug 19th-20th.

A huge thank you to all the coaches for all their hard work and dedication in preparing our athletes and to all the families for their support throughout the season.

Local man Paddy Behan, Shillelagh who has spent a life time working on Coollattin Estate and in the service of the Fitzwilliam Family, will be launching his book of memoirs titled “Part of this Place” in Coollattin Golf Club on Thursday 22nd June at 8pm. Copies will be on sale on the night or afterwards at this home at Corner House, Shillelagh. All welcome to come along on the night.

Carnew u14’s took part in the feile weekend last week and hosted two clubs in the hurling and camogie, hopefully a great weekend was had by all and the weather was fabulous, well done to all involved.

Fr. Peter McVerry.

Well known campaigner for the homeless Fr Peter McVerry will visit Tinahely to speak during Mass in  St. Kevin’s Church, Kilaveney on Saturday 8th July at 7.30p.m.  The theme of his message will be “Homelessness – a challenge for the Gospel”  

He founded the Peter McVerry Trust in 1983.   Peter’s vision for the charity is to support all those living on the margins and to uphold their rights to full inclusion in society.  As a social activist Peter is a strong advocate for those who have no voice in society. Kilaveney Folk Group will sing during this Mass. Everyone is welcome. Bring a friend.
