He founded the The Arrupe Society 1983 to provide housing and support to young people experiencing homelessness. In 2005 the name of the charity changed from the Arrupe Society to Peter McVerry Trust.

Peter’s vision for the charity is to support all those living on the margins and to uphold their rights to full inclusion in society.  As a social activist Peter is a strong advocate for those who have no voice in society. It is with regret that Carnew First Responders are currently  no longer in a position to provide 24 hour cover to the community and as result at different times during the week we will not be in a position to respond.

At present we only have 5 active responders trying to cover around the clock which is becoming more and more difficult with such few numbers and as a result some calls are unfortunately not being responded to. In order to resolve this issue we need people to volunteer, be willing to attend regular training and go on call for as much as you can in any given week whether it’s for 2 hours or 20 hours every little helps. Please contact 0872413293 if you are interested in becoming a responder.

Should  you need a responder please dial 999 and ask for the ambulance service.
