Carnew notes week August 21st

The annual Big Breakfast in Askamore is on this Sunday 27th August at 12 noon in The Park, all welcome.

Carnew Musical Society – Sister Act

Rehearsals for Carnew Musical Society’s production of Sister Act got off to a great start last week two weeks earlier than usual to facilitate the enormous work involved in this show.

All the ladies are getting into the “habit” of rehearsing their nun roles!! Lar Duffy is taking a year off as Musical Director for this show, but stepping into his shoes for Sister Act is the very talented Naoimh Penston from Arklow, who has played a number of lead roles in CMS Shows in the past. Michael Dunbar and Graham Finnerty will again take on the roles of Director and Choreographer



Naoimh will take on dual roles in the Show this year as she also takes on the challenging role of Dolores. Mother Superior will be played by Jennifer Uí Bhroin who received an AIMS Nomination for her role as Golde in Carnew MS production last year of Fiddler on the Roof. 

The role of Sr. Mary Robert will be played by Erin Hogan, Sr. Mary Lazarus will be played by Thérèse Canavan Bolger, while Marie Dunne will take on the role of Sr. Mary Patrick. Monsignor O’ Hara will be played by John Young and Curtis by Bill Stafford while Brian O’Gorman will play Eddie, TJ, Joey and Ernie will be played by Jimmy Spellacy, David Cox and John Duignan. Sr. Mary Martin de Toures will be played by Mary Doran and Michelle and Tina will be played by Catherine Stafford and Clodagh Ni Leasaigh.



On Sunday August 27, the walk will be at Kilbrannish (Grade B, 12km, 3.5 hours) meeting in Bunclody at 10.00. On Sunday September 3, the walk will be at Ballycumber Loop (Grade B, 12km, 3 hours) meeting in Tinahely at 10.30. Please ensure to wear proper walking boots, to bring adequate food & drink and to pack (or wear) rain gear.


Carnew Heritage club are busy preparing for their annual working day on Sunday 10th September on the usual lands on the Main Carnew/Gorey Road.


A bus will be going to knock on Saturday 23rd September for an over night stay chapel at 7.30am, Gorey 8am, if you are interested in travelling please contact Marie 0n 0539426646 or 0872323966.


The Pop up Shop located on the Main Street, Carnew beside the Post Office will hold an end of summer sale on Friday 25th August from 9am – 2pm and on Saturday 26th from 9am – 1pm with a great selection of good quality ladies, gents, children’s, baby clothes, footwear and household items at very affordable prices.
