Imelda steps in while Bono visits Wicklow

Imelda May is facing a backlash from fans after she announced she would be unable to perform at the Down On The Close Festival in Rugby on Saturday.

The reason being, she was asked to sing the national anthem at the McGregor v Mayweather fight in Las Vegas, at the last minute.

It is understood Bono was to sing the anthem, but had to decline the offer as he is attending the wedding of the daughter of former U2 manager Paul McGuinness in Co.Wicklow.

May posted on her Facebook page early on Saturday morning “So here’s the big news! I’ve been asked to perform the National Anthem ahead of the McGregor V Mayweather fight tomorrow night in VEGAS!  Can’t believe it! Let’s go McGregor!!”

Fans who had bought tickets for the sold out gig, vented their anger in the Facebook comments.
