James (Jimmy) McDonald, born 14th July, 1951 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, passed away at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital in Dublin 15, on 15th August, 2017, after a 9 month battle with cancer.
Jim and Von (née O’Hagan) were married on 5th April, 1972 and after a single night’s honeymoon, emigrated to Toronto, Canada. During his time in Canada, Jim was a father to two sons, Neill and Ryan. A successful engineer, Jim was better defined by his devotion to his family as well as his many pastimes; bagpipes (a passion he shared with his two sons), painting and boating. 41 years after moving to Canada, Jim and Von returned to Ireland and settled in Greystones, Co. Wicklow. During retirement, Jim continued his passion for art, became an active member of the Greystones Golf Club and enjoyed spending time with family. Jim was taken from us too early and will be dearly missed by Von, Neill and Ryan, his daughters-in-law Emilie and Tania, his two grandchildren Maureen and Aris, his brother Tommy and family, his brothers and sisters-in-law and their families, and by his many friends.
Reposing at his home in Greystones on Thursday 17th August from 5.00pm – 9.00pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday 18th August at 2.00pm in the Garden Chapel at Mount Jerome Crematorium, Harold’s Cross, Dublin 6W. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Cancer Clinical Research Trust.
