Momentum is gathering for Arklow Enterprise Town, which takes place on Saturday 7th October from 11am to 3pm, in Glenart College. This FREE event aims to showcase all the great clubs, schools, community groups and businesses in the Arklow area.
Over 90 local businesses, clubs and charities are expected to exhibit, while some fantastic local music and dance performances are planned to entertain the crowds. The Arklow Ukulele Players will kick things off at 11.15 and during the day The Inver Ladies Choir, Rhythm Circle and Frances Ryan School of Dance will take to the stage to entertain, with the McMullan’s fashion show rounding things off at 14.30.
For the children, there will be free face-painting, and balloon modelling with Giggles the Clown, and free ice cream for every child. Starbucks will also be providing free Tea and Coffee for everyone.
If that wasn’t enough, TV presenter and Rose of Tralee host Death Ó Sé will also make a guest appearance, with the opportunity to meet and chat with him during the event. At 12.30 a literary panel discussion will be hosted by two best-selling Arklow authors, Adele O’Neill, of Brothers & Sisters fame, and Chris Rush, author of Folklore, followed by Q&A and book signing.
As part of the event, a chosen charity will receive up to €2,000 and this year The Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust has been selected. The Trust supports the employment of special nurses, pharmacists, counsellors and the purchase of equipment. Monies raised will help the Trust to provide financial and moral support to the Bone Marrow Transplant unit at St. James Hospital.
Local Arklow schools are also being invited to get involved by entering the event competitions, to be in with a chance win Kindle Tablets and Bridgewater shopping vouchers. For the primary schools, there will be a colouring competition and poetry competition, while there will be a photography competition for the secondary schools. More details can be found on the “Arklow Enterprise Town” Facebook page, or through each school.
The Enterprise Town event is supported by Bank of Ireland and Derek Tobin, Branch Manager with Bank of Ireland Arklow is not surprised by the positive response so far; “The community really pulled together for Arklow Enterprise Town last year and it great to see that everyone is behind it once again. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic event again with something for everyone. Local companies will be able to network, clubs and societies can display their talents and charities raise their profile”.
Mr. Tobin says, “Enterprise Town aims to bring all sectors together and promote everything that is positive about Arklow. We would love to see everyone come out to support this event and is completely FREE for both exhibitors and general admission.”
