Whistling girl comes to Tinahely

The acclaimed Irish duo of singer and actress Honor Heffernan and composer/ keyboard player Trevor Knight proudly present their new Cabaret/Speakeasy-style show, “The Whistling Girl”. Trevor Knight has transformed the poems of Dorothy Parker into songs, using her witty, droll and sometimes heart rending lyrics which are uniquely interpreted by Honor Heffernan.

A band of top Irish musicians including Garvan Gallagher bass, Tom Jamieson drums, Ed Deane electric guitar, Ciaran Wilde saxophone’s, Bill Blackmore horns and Trevor Knight keyboards, will be fronted by vocalist and actress Honor Heffernan.

Uncomfortable in her skin to the point of self-loathing, Dorothy Parker initially seems an unlikely inspiration for a cabaret show.  Composer Trevor Knight,  however, saw past the cynicism and found in the sardonic wit of the New Yorker’s poems the springboard for this show. Parker’s misanthropic verse is phrased in deliciously acidic terms and Knight deployed similarly disarming musical settings here. In Symptom Recital, he underscored Parker’s paean to depression with sunny, brassy sounds

Despite ranging from jazz to rock and from electronica to cabaret, the show’s elements meshed well,….. it is easy to picture Mrs Parker viewing this show with both a hiked eyebrow and a wry smile. “ Denis Clifford **** Irish Times

Trevor Knight is a composer/ performer/ director composing music for more than 80 theatrical productions including the award winning “Catalpa” with Donal O’Kelly
