Council begin clean up after Ophelia

Wicklow County Council’s Severe Weather Co-ordination Group reconvened at 9am this morning (Tuesday) to consider and review the response of the relevant agencies to Storm Ophelia.

Council crews, the Fire Service and Civil Defence were very busy throughout yesterday and into late into the night responding to calls for assistance from the public.

While County Wicklow did not suffer any major infrastructural damage, there were many fallen trees and damaged powerlines reported.

The Council has now moved to the clean-up and recovery phase in the aftermath of the storm and is currently assessing and prioritising work that needs to be carried out.

The Council is continuing to co-operate with all relevant agencies

The Council continues to urge the public to be cautious of the dangers of fallen trees/damaged powerlines.   Motorists should also take great care when driving as there is a lot of debris remaining on many roads.

All Wicklow County Council public services and facilities are open as normal today.
