Wicklow County Council along with Arklow Coastcare & Arklow Volunteer Centre are launching a Marine Litter Awareness for Arklow Initiative. The marine environment worldwide is deeply affected by the amount of litter and waste that is accumulating in it. Transition years & Youthreach students of Arklow along with participants in National Learning Network & Sunbeam House Services have signed up to participate in this exciting new environmental programme. This project offers practical engagement for the students in tackling this issue.
The students will carry out a series of clean-ups of litter, fly tipping and marine waste on Ennereilly, and Clogga Beaches throughout the month of October and then all are invited to come along to a Conference in the Arklow Bay on the morning of November 7th where we will learn more about Marine Waste both locally & globally, and its impact on our lives. There will be speakers from PURE, An Taisce Coastwatch and Seiche Training and a chance for the students to give their opinions on solutions to this important environmental and social issue.
The clean ups to which all are most welcome are as follows:
Wednesday 11th October @ 10.30am – Arklow CBS & Sunbeam House Services – Clogga Beach, Arklow
Tuesday 17th October @ 2.00pm – St Mary’s Arklow – Ennereilly, Arklow
