Over 1,000 people have so far signed a petition to support the sustainability of Purple House Cancer Support Centre in Bray.
The petition to the Minister for Health Simon Harris and the HSE calls for sustainable funding for the organisation to roll out vital psycho-oncology and psycho-social support services such as Counselling for families affected by Cancer.
Services provided by Purple House is included in the National Cancer Strategy, which was launched in July by Minister Harris.
Purple House Cancer Support can no longer rely on fundraising alone to provide these services to over 1,200 people annually.
Purple House Cancer Support was a member of the National Patient’s Forum of the National Cancer Strategy and has worked tirelessly over the past 27 years to ensure that the emotional, mental health and psycho-social support needs of the Cancer patient were documented in the National Cancer Strategy.
If sustainable funding is not provided, the future of such services will be in doubt.
The organisation is now calling on the public to sign the petition and to let your voice be heard by the Minister for Health and the HSE.
The petition can be signed online at www.purplehouse.ie or in person at Purple House Cancer Support Centre on Parnell Road in Bray or at The Purple House charity shop opposite Bray Town Hall.
